I'm going on vacation to the Dominican Republic in a few weeks. The travel agent told me to just pack my meds in original bottles in my carry-on. I have a lot of meds including 2 narcotics.
Has anyone done this? Are they going to want to go through my meds or just ignore them? I don't want to be perceived as a drug dealer.

What your travel agent said is also what I've heard again and again, but maybe also ask your pharmacist and/or doctor. I'm hesitant to suggest what I do for fear it wouldn't be best for you, at the times/places your going to. Ya never know what new procedures might be put in place.
I take a lot of meds, too. Right now I have 9 pill bottles, 10 if you include my daily vitamin. Then there are other pills that are either OTC remedies (NSAIDs, heartburn, constipation, etc.), or two prescription meds I only take on rare occasions, but are needed when needed. We bring a small pharmacy, indeed. I don't take narcotics. I do take benzos and my husband takes a few prescription meds, including Adderall XR. |

Not to be a downer but I hope you have been following the news on recent American deaths in the Dominican Republic and are staying somewhere safe.
No advice on meds. I traveled internationally quite a bit but I don't have benzos or narcotics. I just left everything in my original prescription bottle. Good Luck! |

I’ve traveled to Portugal, Germany (Munich and Berlin), Austria (Vienna), Poland (Krakow) and Czech Republic (Prague). I brought my ritalin and my other BP meds. Never had a problem since I kept everything in their original bottles. None of the airports (including Boston-Logan since I’m from Boston) took my meds out to look at them. Never. Not in NYC, Cali, or Philly, either.
Just make sure you look up local laws on your meds. I remember a girl (teacher) getting arrested in Japan for bringing in Adderall. She was in jail for several months until either trump or Obama got her out (can’t remember which president it was). Never trust a travel agent on that. |

We actually were supposed to stay where the deaths were. That has been changed to somewhere that should be safer. The other place was too scary.

Nobody has ever looked through my meds. Sometimes I take original bottles and other times I take a pill tray - either way have never had a problem. I do not take benzos or narcotics, though.

I have yet to have the TSA. Take my pill bottles out of my suitcase to look at them. This also includes diabetic meds with needles.

I travel overseas regularly. In addition I have the challenge of getting back into Australia with my meds on return.
In addition to either using a Webster pack or using the original packaging for the meds I’ve found the next three things a must: 1. Carry a letter from your doctor stating what meds you have been prescribed and why 2. Put the letter and the meds into a clear ziplock bag. That way it takes customs 5 sec to see what you have 3. Declare your meds - it’s not worth getting into trouble

I agree with Pooky. When I traveled from Australia to the USA, Canada, and the UK I was advised to take a letter from my pdoc and have the meds in their original packaging. I was never asked about them even when my baggage was ruffled through as something on the scanner bothered them. However, I don’t know what the Dominican Republic standards are.
