My uncle passed away several days ago. My aunt called me yesterday with the news. He was my favorite uncle out of the entire family. I also have been looking for a job, but have been turned down, even by the big box retailers during the past Christmas season, I met this electrical engineer. He is well connected. He told me to tell him what kind of job that I want, and he will connect me up with someone who can give me a job. However, this would probably be a full time job. I do not know if this would be a good idea. I could lose my disability (SSDI). Also, I have not had a job in twenty years. Just to jump right into a full time, demanding job may not be a good idea,

The adventure continues.

Condolences on your uncle, Tucson.

I'd suggest telling your friend that you're only looking for part time. That way he has a better idea of what you actually want, which will make his search more efficient and his suggestions more relevant, which will be better for both of you. Wishing you luck!

Condolences. So sorry for your loss. He must have been a great guy.

A word of caution about work: You say you haven't worked in 20 years. Nobody, not even the government, expects you to throw yourself into a full-time job right now. SSA has a program called Ticket to Work (you've probably heard of it) that helps support people for a time after getting a job. I think it's nine months. That way you've got time to figure out if a job is right for you before they pull the rug out from under you. Starting full-time is probably NOT a good idea, you may decompensate and have to begin all over again.

Just my thoughts, take what you need and leave the rest. Good luck!

Why is everyone Legendary or a Wise Elder on here? Is this just a joke or is it just a cultural thing - ie. you're all Americans and take yourselves way too seriously.

I'm sorry to read about your loss, tucson. I know how hard it is to lose loved ones.

BipolaRnurse provided very good information. I know that no mental health professional has ever recommended that I should return to work full-time. They always have recommended a transition including part-time work first. As BipolaRnurse wrote, jumping from full disability to full-time work can be destabilizing for many. I know that it surely would for me.

Sorry for your loss. I don't think it is good to jump into things suddenly. Has your pdoc suggested you'd be OK to work full-time or part-time? I've tried full-time even after my pdoc said she thought working (full or part-time) was not in my best interest, and I nearly ended up in the hospital each time. And once you mess with stuff like disability and social security, it's hard to get it back after you lose benefits.

It’s just a default setting based on how many posts you have surpassed it can easily be renamed to whatever by the member.

A bit insulting about “ us “ Americans. But I’m going to just take a guess and hope your kidding

Thank you everyone! My uncles passing reminded me of my own mortality, which is very depressing. But I am sure this thought will diminish over time. The years are going by very quickly now. Too quickly. Much too quickly. I am hoping I can see my daughter to at least her forties. I had her late in my life. Once I see she will be alright, I will feel better.

The website has members from all over the world.
Australia doesn’t have a website with anything even remotely like this one. So I respectfully say “play nice”.
