I called five places so far. The first one didn't do medication management, two don't do severe mental illnesses (been there before and things haven't changed), one didn't answer the phone, and the other had a messed up answering machine. I'm getting so stressed over this. I don't have a pdoc anymore, he's gone. There's another clinic in a neighboring city, but I've been there before and have my own horror story (and searching this place online reveals lots of other horror stories of people not getting their meds for months at a time).
I don't have a therapist to refer me to someone. My primary refers everyone to the horror story clinic.
My insurance website lists 13 psychiatrists, including the ones I've called already.
This is overwhelming. What do I do if I run out of meds? What do I do if I start having warning signs?

That suck majorly. I don't have a pdoc here either. Fortunately my PCP writes my scripts. I was stable before I moved here to where there's no mental health care and the pdoc back in Texas got me on the right cocktail. Knock on wood I've been stable since, don't know what I would do if I become unstable. There's one pdoc for three counties. He's full up of course.

Urgent care filled mine while I was waiting for a pdoc. Keep calling the last two.

i can relate on some level: i was seeing a pdoc for years until i took on medicare insurance and he no longer would treat me; i looked for psych nurses in my area (there are many) and most of them are pretty good; they take my medicare insurance, spend about 20 min. with me and write all my rx and refill them as needed. i've been living with bipolar for about 40 years so i'm very knowledgeable about what works/doesn't work (insomnia is my biggest issue) so if you have a good understanding of your illness, maybe a psych nurse might be your answer. good luck.
Thanks for this!

got a hold of one of the places that didn't answer and they say I need a primary within their system to refer me. I called the other one back and still no answer so I left a message. Called some other places too and one was a methadone clinic and one only did geriatric psychiatry and one was a place I've been to before and they won't take me back. I'm out of Invega but I'm in an IOP right now so that's not a problem but when I run out of days it will be.

I am so sorry. The health system here just sucks. Then, when you get a new pdoc, who knows if you're going to end up with a lemon? My old pdoc was the best. I saw a couple other pdocs before she retired who were awful, called her in tears, and even though she technically was no longer my doctor (because other pdocs had since seen me), she pulled a few strings and got me right on her long-time colleague's schedule (he has a 6 month waiting list). He's a good pdoc, great by the low standards I now know exist, but still nowhere near as good a doctor as she was. But thank God I had her to pull the right strings when it came time to find a new pdoc.

And insurance companies suck so much. They are awful to deal with, whether it's mental health or physical healthcare in general.

Can the IOP suggest a place to go/get help in your situation?

Worse comes to worse, the ER maybe?

IDK, temporarily between pdocs, my PCP filled my psych meds, but I was on fewer of them and had been on the exact same meds and dosage like 3 or 4 years, and I'd been seeing her during that time as well.
