I posted on my blog today about directions. Specifically for my knowing- or not- how to get from place to place and my fear of getting lost. Do you have similar problems?

I get anxious sometimes travelling someplace new. It has lessened a great deal now that I can listen to directions on my phone. My anxiety kicks in even more if I feel not knowing how to get somewhere will make me late. I also dislike following behind someone while driving.

I am terrible with directions! I think a part of it is my anxiety level if/when someone is giving me directions .
I do okay with a talking GPS set up.

I would say up until about 11-12 years ago I had no problem just going into any town or area and not worry , eventually I’d find where I needed to be. That was by looking at MapQuest once before hitting the door

Then as I started a downward spiral ( prior to actually having any real mental illness symptoms) of worries about finding a place. Then I got a gps and I was back to “ send me anywhere “ mentality again.

When my life basically imploded and eventually I got my label I had started months before having a feeling of dread if I had to go somewhere outside my norm, even without my GPS.

Because I have lived in the rural town for 15 years I don’t have trouble here or a larger town that I had already been going to often.

Every trip we make to Florida a road or section of interstate is closed, landmarks that I use to know have disappeared. In the town most of our kids live in St Pete. My husband was born and raised there so he usually does the driving and a few times he has gotten mixed up lol so I don’t feel so bad.

Now I depend on Waze it updates constantly so even with road closures it gets us from point A to B fairly easy.

I think this is a fear most everyone can relate to “ getting lost”
