naps are hit or miss with me. I may take a hour to an hour and a half nap and feel refreshed but still could be in bed by 11 pm (I usually get up around 8:30 if I'm lucky enough to get that much sleep).

then some days I may nap 3 hours and then pow! up all night....it sucks.

Just slept another 2 1/2 hour nap. And I have to be at the hospital at 9 tomorrow morning! Blech. The nap felt good though.

I used to take a 2+ hour nap daily when I took my Geodon in the morning. It was like being hit with a tranquilizer. I take it before bed now and I wake up with energy and haven't needed a nap since.

Its 630 pm. Ive been up for 12 1/2 hours. On a usual day it would be 10:30 pm! But I am going to stay awake anyway.

I think the topic of napping is quite interesting. It seems that people's need, desire, and benefits from naps vary. My paternal grandparents were regular nappers and relished them. My father does, too. He can barely function without one and takes one at the same exact time each day from like 1 pm to 3:30 pm.

My husband has had the ability (though sometimes beyond his control) to take brief naps anywhere and anytime. He says he falls asleep for periods of 5 to 10 minutes several times per day, while sitting at his work desk. Luckily, he doesn't get in trouble. He's told me stories about getting on trams and falling asleep to only be awoken by the tram driver at the end of the route. He has had airline flight attendants have to wake him up after everyone else has disembarked the plane. He's one of the annoying type travel companions that falls asleep as soon as he boards the plane, and then doesn't wake up again until the plane arrives at its destination. No company for me!

I usually cannot nap at all. I don't desire naps. On the rare occasions I've fallen asleep during the day, I wake up feeling unwell and disoriented. I recall a few times waking up and thinking that I had slept almost 24 hours, but in reality I only slept for 20 to 45 minutes. That, or I only reached a half-sleep, which is also miserable, in my view.

I generally sleep well at night, unless I've been manic. Then I have zero desire for sleep at all and don't miss it one bit. I'll admit that on Seroquel XR, if I forget my evening medications, I don't sleep AT ALL. I don't think that's so much my bipolar disorder, as it is my dependence on the medication. However, if I don't take my antipsychotic for a while, I do become manic. Really, if I don't take my evening Seroquel XR and am up all night, I become quite frantic. There would be no way I could fall asleep again until I took the Seroquel XR. My morning medications no longer sedate me at all. I need the extended release Seroquel. If I had to take the regular, I'd likely need to take some of the regular in the morning, as well as at night.

Sometimes when I develop agitation or bad irritability despite my regular medications, I take 25 to 100 mg of the regular Seroquel during the day. It doesn't tire me out at all anymore. It just takes off the edge of the agitation or growing mania. Sometimes I'll even take 25 to 50 mg regular Seroquel during the day for anxiety relief. It's helpful! If PRNs become too frequently needed, my base dose of the extended release goes up.
