I've been going through a rough depressive/psychotic episode. So far I've been coping by sleeping a lot. I'm talking 14-15 hours per night plus naps during the day.
Can anyone here relate to extreme sleeping when depressed? I don't really know what to do.

How much has your clozapine been increased? I know that just a 25 mg increase has made me very, very tired in the past and takes a while to adjust to. It may be a combination of that with depression but it probably at least it at part guilty.

Everyone can have their own reasons for these symptoms.
I have been very, very sleepy when I was severly depressed and it related to extreme want to escape from the world and reality. Therapy helped on finding different routes for dealing with problems. Seek out help, and I hope you will feel better soon!

I went from 300mg to 400mg for a few days, and now 500mg. I guess this could also be why I'm so tired.

It would be for me. Anything over 350 and I'm a zombie. I can't imagine 500 although my pdoc has one other person on clozapine and they are on 800 mg (but in combination with abilify) and they are not sedated. So I'm sure it's an individual thing but I would suspect it if it were me based on my prior experiences.

It is called hypersomnia and is one of the symptoms of depression. I have had both depression with hypersomnia and depression with early awakenings - the latter were frightful. I'd rather sleep off depression. Also, hypersomnia may happen when you are rising from depression, for some time, until you feel stable again.

When I’m depressed it’s actually a good thing for “me” to sleep, I’m safer that way.
I hope your Med change kicks in fast ![]()

I used to sleep like that all the time. Depression was off the charts. My doc was urging me to try lithium for the longest time and I kept resisting, thinking it wouldn't do anything. But I was amazed to find it helped a lot.

Yes, I sleep a lot with sedating meds given to me during an episode.
When depressed, I tend to be agitated and do not sleep well. I hope you feel better soon! ![]()

I sleep as much as I can when depressed. I also used to take more Seroquel when depressed (or manic) and that also added to the sleepy feeling.
I get really low on energy, and I either sleep or do as little as possible. (I am still able to work fulltime- but when it’s severe I have to take som day off and just sleep or well, recover) I hope things turn for you soon, and that you will feel better ![]() ![]() |

Yes, I sleep 14-16 hours a day when I’m severely depressed without any change in medications. For me, that’s a good thing. Maybe talk to your pdoc?
I hope you feel better soon. ![]() |

Extreme sleeping is how I cope with my depression. I feel like I'm escaping from all my troubles when my sleep increases. I even nap during the day just to re-charge. It can get rather bothersome though when I have things to do and commitments to make. Sometimes it gets very frustrating.

I, too, deal with depression by sleeping. If I don’t have anything to do during the day (like if I take the day off from work bc I’m too depressed to go in) I will sleep for six to eight hours during the day, get up to pick up my son, and go back to sleep at 8pm and sleep straight through until I have to get up again.
Like others have said, sometimes it’s better for me to be asleep because at least then I’m not actively planning anything.
