I say the movie Midsommar last week with my family. The murder/suicide by the bipolar character at the beginning of the film really bothered me. I found myself disturbed for days afterwards. I'm not sure exactly why though. I can't tell if I just found the whole idea depressing or if I was upset by the characterization of someone with my illness.

I haven't seen it, either. I assume the character with bipolar disorder did the murder and then committed suicide?

The sad part about movies and TV shows that depict bipolar disorder are that they usually show worst case scenarios that are rare occurrences. It's all for entertainment and it always will be. They want $$$$$$$

It is a shame that the above reenforces stigma. Only the occasional depiction tries to get it a little more right.
