I started seroquel up again in May because of a manic episode. Im still so tired 2 months later. Not exactly exhausted like I was but still sleepy, bored, and generally run down. Anybody else wiped out so long after starting seroquel?

I can relate. Seroquel kicked my butt. Made me gain weight, I was exhausted all the time and had bad bouts of lethargy. I was on it a very long time before I brought it up to my PDoc. I was weened off eventually but not before having some mania and feeling really depleted. Sometimes at the same moment. It wasn't a good experience. But, it works differently for different people.

Hi Moose!
So sorry you are having so much hypersomnia and fatigue with Seroquel. I had to start on Seroquel because my life had gotten so upsetting and I could not sleep and was becoming increasingly unstable.. I did sleep with Seroquel, at just 200mg. I have added another 25 mg, prn, in late afternoon. It does make me tired. I try to get over any hangover effect by 9am. Beyond that, I do not have the patience for it to make me tired. I also take Mirapex, which helps to offset the Seroquel. Ido not take it in order to offset the Seroquel, it just happens to do so. Mirapex, according to my understanding, can be used for both BPI and BPII depressions; however, it can become agitating, can evoke mania, so one must be careful. According to my pdoc, it's most useful in BPII, but can be used in BPI, as well, with adequate caution. I hope you can taper down soon and can get some relief from the sedation. I am also gaining weight on it. I HATE that! Much Love to You! __________________ May we each fully claim the courage to live from our hearts, to allow Love, Faith and Hope to enLighten our paths. |

Ok so I remember waking up and turning over and going back to sleep. When I got up finally, after lots of dreams, my cellphone, it read "3:00"! stupid seroquel.

Any chance, at all, your pdoc will agree to tapering it down a bit?
It seems like you are suffering a lot at this dose. __________________ May we each fully claim the courage to live from our hearts, to allow Love, Faith and Hope to enLighten our paths. |

When I saw this thread's title, I thought "Me, too!" but I'm not certain if my Seroquel XR is a factor. I was zooming with energy earlier, but am crashing now, but in a more extreme way than I have for a very long time. I almost skipped making dinner, but I pushed myself. I'm on the sofa while the salmon bakes. Made a quick salad. Said to heck with rice. I'll just serve baguette with butter.
I have been clocking more sleep lately, but I've attributed it to stress. I haven't seen my psychiatrist for three weeks and he won't be back from his vacation for three more. I highly doubt he'd lower my Seroquel XR during this rough period for me. I don't even know if he'd increase my Latuda. Maybe I'll feel better when he returns. If not, we'll see what he does. Seroquel XR was very sedating for me, at times in the past. However, in recent years it's just fine if I take it early and don't stay up too late. It's actually fairly weight neutral for me up to 450 mg. I'm on 500 mg now, down from 600 mg. I have been trying to diet in recent weeks. I lost about 7 lbs in four weeks, then regained a little over vacation, and have lost what I regained this past week and a half. I did eat a donut today. It was more stress eating than Seroquel XR, I believe. I hope to get back on a strict eating plan soon. If my stress goes down and energy is good, I know I could lose at least 10 more lbs in a few months. It's not a lost case for me. Ten pounds more off would put me within five pounds of a normal BMI. I've been on Seroquel XR for about seven years. |

So many doctors take vacation in July. I hope you are not crashing, BirdDancer. Yet, you have been through so much stress lately! Sometimes stress makes me crash. I hope you feel better soon. __________________ May we each fully claim the courage to live from our hearts, to allow Love, Faith and Hope to enLighten our paths. |

Though I'm not on Seroquel, my meds make me incredibly tired as well. Being tired and sleeping too much is the main reason I go off my meds, actually. The pdocs say to bring it up with them but they never do anything to help...

I was told to take the seroquel earlier than bedtime so I can get up earlier but so far its hit or miss.

My pdoc prescribes me varying doses of Seroquel during an episode to knock out the agitation mainly. To begin with I can usually tolerate high-ish(~400mg spaced out through the day) doses and be barely tired. It is once it starts to knock me out that I know I am getting better as the Bipolar isn't pushing so hard against it. I tend to slowly wean off it over weeks/months after that based upon my response. However, this is when it is not being used as a mood stabiliser but for severe agitation and insomnia/hypomania.

Yes, I've been taking seroquel for more than a year now, and I still am fatigued as hell.

I was taking 300 mg of Seroquel XRT plus 100 mg Seroquel at bedtime. I slept really well for the first time in my life, but it was too much. I was tired all the time and felt almost nothing. I didn't want to do anything. I wasn't depressed, I just felt dead inside. And oh so tired.
I stopped the Seroquel 300 XRT in April and I have so much more energy now. I tried Abilify for a month and it made me hypomanic. Now I take 1.0 mg Risperdal at bedtime with the 100 mg of Seroquel. I sleep all night, and I'm not tired all day anymore. It's kept the hypomania at bay so far. __________________ Dx: BP2 with GAD and OCD Seroquel 100 mg Risperdal 0.5 mg Clonazepam (Klonopin) 1.5 mg Buspar 5 mg Lamictal 200 mg Coversyl Plus for high blood pressure Crestor for high cholesterol Asmanex Ventolin |

I'm taking the lowest dose of Seroquel there is - 12.5 - to help my sleep be stable. Low dose - doesn't matter. I keep falling asleep, whatever I'm doing. My eyes just close and I have no choice but to lie down and sleep. It's so frustrating.
