I'm bipolar and have more manic tendencies than depressive. I recently started constantly sexting and having sex with strangers. I actually posted in the sex addiction thread a bit ago thinking I'm addicted. I've always been hypersexual and have hurt both myself and others when manic and drinking. So, after the sex addiction test, I'm not sure what is up. I went 17 days without sex! Yay for me.....but since I had it on Mon I feel the beast is back. Worse, I'm preparing my body unhealthily for tonight's liaison. I feel like I am toying with my life...... for sex

I'm so sorry, @FearandLoathing40! I'm SURE that you're not alone in your struggles. Are you currently taking any Meds right now? Do you see a Pdoc? Perhaps there are some Meds out there that may help with you libido. Are you seeing a therapist right now? Does he/she help? I certainly hope so! Just try to reach out to ANYONE who may be able to help you. You're not alone. Trust me when I say that. For now, just try to delete your accounts from ALL Social Medias you have so that you won't be tempted to do sexting. Hopefully that will help a little bit! Please hang in there, FearandLoathing40! I wish you the BEST of luck and I hope that you'll be able to get through ALL of your struggles! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you and your family, FearandLoathing40, and to ALL the people you Love and who TRULY Love you and Accept you for who you TRULY are! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you and your family, FearandLoathing40! KEEP FIGHTING AND KEEP ROCKING!

I can relate. I have gotten very hypersexual during mania and have hurt myself and others. My hypersexuality has gotten me into trouble and has affected my marriage. I only tended to get that way during manias but depressive eps and states were opposite. I would have a decreased libido. I did mention it to my PDoc and he thought it was a sign mostly of the mania. Be strong and think things out when engaging in sexual encounters. 17 days is a long time to go without sex and you should be proud of abstaining. Be as mindful as you can. Sending best wishes.

Are there any ways you can think of that can help lower the risk to yourself? Not necessarily saying totally abstaining from having sexual activities, just thinking how can you make it less dangerous. Which parts are dangerous, is it that you don't know the people and that puts you in an unsafe situation? Is it a sign of needing a medication adjustment for you?

Hi!

Welcome to the BP Forum here at PC.

I hope you will find the support and the information you may be seeking.

Hypersexuality is a common theme here, due to the nature of both hypomania and of mania. Still others deal with hypersexuality, as well, for whatever reasons.

So, you'd had enough insight about your planned behavior to write about it here -- before you'd participated on that day. So insight, alone, is not enough to stop these behaviors, in your case. By the way, you are very fortunate to have insight like this.

Often, when people are suffering an "addiction," they go ahead with the behavior(s), even with insight. They might feel a compulsion to somehow fulfill their "need." An alcoholic feels a compulsion to drink more alcohol, for example. In many cases, this makes people feel worse about themselves. For example, an alcoholic might engage in drinking for immediate satisfaction; yet, then may feel increasingly defeated by this drive for alcohol. S/he might also suffer in many areas of his/her health and life due to this addiction.

The same goes for sexual addictions.

I am not diagnosing you as a "sex addict." I am not qualified to do so.
Maybe you can see a therapist who specializes in sex addiction to learn more about yourself and about your healthier options?

I hope you will make yourself at home here at PC!

I do have a pdoc who I thankfully see next month. I also take Paxil, Lamictal, Seroquel and Trazadone as needed. I think the enormous amount of stress I'm under is a major contributing factor. The danger of the situation is foremost the fact that these men are pretty much strangers. I'm not using protection ,and now I've started to use otc products in a manner that they are not intended for to prepare my body for sex that has the potential to be rough ☹️ what in the name of everything holy have I become
