Absolutely interesting! I definitely believe that mental illnesses are biological differences. I, too, am excited to find out in what direction such research will go, as far as treatment options.

Thanks so much for posting this. It helps with stigma. I was so angry after Trumps ignorant remarks about mental illness this week and the prejudice his remarks can cause or reinforce. Your post made me a little sad as well because I. Inferred from this that you think it isn’t well known on this forum that these are physical disorders. I hope all of us knew that. Great article. We could all copy it to use with ignorant people.
I learned a lot this week from a bipolar friend who was a therapist working with violent folks such as domestic abusers. She said that in 95% of her cases, these violent men had anger management issues, not mental illness.Ofcourse, the El Paso perpetrator is a white supremacist so it was mostly ideological-such an evil and ignorant man. Hold your head high people, and speak out against stigma whenever you can. CNNwas good about pointing out that other countries have those with mental illness but not the mass shootings we have. Be sure to vote, everyone! __________________ Bipolar 2 with anxious distress mixed states & rapid cycling under severe stress tegretol 200 mg wellbutrin 75 mg, cut in half or higher dose as needed Regular aerobic exercise SKILLSET/KNOWLEDGE BASE: Family Medical Advocate Masters in Library Science Multiple Subject Teaching Credential-15 yrs in public schools |

The first thing I learned about bipolar disorder is that one of the causes is believed to be a chemical imbalance. That's a physical problem that manifests as a difference in the brain's ability to properly process emotion. Mental illness is then a symptom, not the cause. A book I read likened it to having type 1 diabetes. |

Thanks for sharing, Moose72. I thought it was a physical illness too. Hopefully these new findings will help with identifying and treating BP sooner for better results.
