Is the chatter saying anything bad?
My general rule of thumb is: try your best to block out the chatter if it's nonsensical and random, but if the chatter turns into a conversation with you (e.g., you and the voices are talking to each other) or the voices are suggesting you hurt yourself or others in some way, then you need to tell someone ASAP. Also, even if the voices aren't harmful in any way, if they're bothering you, you really should tell someone because that can stress you out, and stress can make things worse. ![]() I tend to hear random words on a near daily basis. For example, "Bob car frog that it was were is cat." I block those out with music, TV, YouTube, nature sounds, etc.. Just gotta find one sound to block out the other, I guess. |

Sometimes my voices stop for a while when I find something to completely interrupt them. For example, blasting music through headphones for like 10-15 mins at a time. The voices never seem to talk louder than the music. But that may not be the case for you. IDK. I know it's not good to blast music in your ears, but that's just what I do. For me, volume matters. Low volumes mean the voices can talk over them.

Can you put on nature sounds while you sleep? Some people actually quite enjoy the relaxing nature sounds and find it helps put them to sleep. And since it can be used to possibly block out the voices, maybe that's worth trying?
Just a thought. ![]() |

Compartmentalize. They become background noise and you focus on the task at hand. Change can cause symptoms. Don't give them power.

Earplugs?
Those help me feel more in control when the voices start. Music is also really good. Agree with the headphones suggestion. Also maybe humming. That feels like a way to “fight” the voices to me. But maybe its best for you to try to ignore them. I am only suggesting what I do, but maybe its not the “right” thing, I dont know. |

You can take control of the voices or let the voices control you. A good therapist will teach you the difference.
