I don’t get why people say to look others in their eyes and then they will respect you. When people will look you in the eyes for 7 years and betray you. Making you feel worse than someone who completely ignores your existence and never looked you in the eye, but left you at peace. :/

Eye contact is a function of power and dominance. Beyond that it's meaningless. I've looked people straight in the eyes and lied floridly and convincingly, and they walked away happy. Means nothing.

Look past the eyes and into the soul. The intent is always there if you can feel it out. Sometimes we accept the lie because it looks right. Deep down though we usually know it didn't feel right.

If your stomach flutters, there's a reason. If your skin crawls, pay attention. If you feel a tingle, that's important. If you sense the sinking, run. Eyes may lie, but the energy behind them tells their truth.

The kind eyes that go with a genuine smile speak volumes. The frantic look in the eyes of someone experiencing fear can haunt you for a long time. The stern look of someone who looks into lying eyes and knows truth can elicit panic. Eyes can do much more than display power and dominance.

True, but I was talking about eye contact, and the notion of its importance. Oh, and in my bad old days I found that stern look could be undermined with a big smile and ploughing on regardless. Apparently it can even work at the highest levels of government.

An opponent that allowed you to proceed doesn't necessarily mean your eyes didn't give you away. I wasn't talking about you specifically though. Perhaps you have superpowers in the lying department. I'm open to that

Nah, I'm good now. I think that mostly it's words that give you away, but I keep everything pretty much on the straight and narrow these days.

I hear that. I used to be quite manipulative. I have thankfully grown out of it. It is so much more challenging and rewarding to convince people to support my ideas with an honorable intent.

I like making eye contact. It makes my conversations feel more genuine. But I have had a few look me in the eyes and lie to my face.
