I applied to this big box store at least a half a year ago. They called me last Friday for an interview later that same day. Yesterday, they called me up to tell me they have a position for me at their store. Basically, I will be a kind of greeter, periodically checking their receipts to see if the customer is walking away with unpaid items.
This is my first job in over twenty years. I am very anxious, and downright nervous about this new job. Part of me thinks something may go wrong for me. I may get confused and make mistakes. Yes, it is a job a simpleton should be able to handle, but I am sure I will make mistakes. The hours worked each week, and the amount I will earn, is just below SSDI limits. I will be working up to 20 hours a week, making up to about $1100 a month. It would be just my luck if SSDI drops support with my disability checks anyway. I really do need this job. I have massive amounts of debt to pay off. PS I did not tell them that I am on disability. I had to do some fast talking when I inadvertently told them that it has been a long time since I had a job. My quickly thought up explanation worked. PPS Should I wear a sports coat and tie? I may as well look good while making my numerous mistakes. __________________ Dx: Bipolar I, ADD, GAD. Good for you, Tucson!! Congrats!!
As for dress, I think it's always a pretty good policy to take dress cues from co-workers. Just see what other folks are wearing and maybe try to go with something like that. You are gonna do awesome! __________________ When I was a kid, my parents moved a lot, but I always found them--Rodney Dangerfield |

Congratulations, Tucson! That's a great step getting back to work after so long! It's natural to feel nervous.
I agree with bpcyclist about the dress code. If you are still a little unsure, you can perhaps always bring the sports coat and then ask if you really need to wear it. Maybe it could be stored in an employee room, if not needed. Then you'll know. Or could you call before and ask? |

Congratulations! I would call and ask about what to wear; at least here most big box stores have uniform for employees. It's usually a polo shirt and khakis or dark pants. I think greeters have fleece jackets to wear when it is cold at the door which wouldn't be an issue where you live. But I"m sure that varies by location.

Best wishes! One of the best things to wear as a greeter is a smile! It may help you relax as well as the people you are around.
I hope it goes well for you! __________________ A virtual to all in a time of physical social distancing! Trying to practice coping tools to live in my own skin more gently, peacefully, & comfortably One Day a Time (sometimes one breath at a time) |

Congratulations on your new job
As Hallie mentioned double check with social security office about how much you can earn with out putting your SSDI monthly amount at risk or applied to the “ Ticket to work program “ as that is only for 9 months.. I’d just look at what the other employees are wearing and use that as a guide. If you’ll be standing your whole shift I do recommend getting a good pair of shoes with lots of support. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |

Thank you all! Boy am I nervous. I hope my brain continues to function. Every so often, it goes blank. I did not tell them that I am on disability. I just told them that I cannot work more than 20 hours a week. My calculations tell me that I will be making under SGA, so this is good. I just cannot accept any raises. I do not know how to tell them this without revealing my disability status.
My hands are shaking, so I hope I can still use their computer. I have to go through an employee learning coarse before my actual work begins. One more hour before I go into work. I am excited and scared at the same time. __________________ Dx: Bipolar I, ADD, GAD. Rx: Fluoxetine, Buproprion, Olanzapine, Lamictal, and Strattera. |

I had problems focusing my mind on each problem at hand. I hope tomorrow goes better. This may be due to my meds. Stratera was added with an increase in Amphetamine Salts, a stimukant. I stopped both just to see what happens. Maybe going back on one of the two will help me focus. Right now my hands are shaking, but not as much as yesterday. I think I will remain off of them an extra day. I may continue to use Remeron (sp) which is suppose to help with the hands.
Update: the med is called Benztropine, not Remeron. I see as side effects confusion, dizziness, and tremor. So I will discontinue this one too for a couple days, One I find the culprit, I will start taking the rest of the meds, Amphetamine Salts, and Stratera. PS My pdoc thinks I have ADD, and this is why he has prescribed the stimulants. I think it is just a feature of my Bipolar. __________________ Dx: Bipolar I, ADD, GAD. A second day finished and I have not been fired yet. My mind is having problems focusing. I heed to do something about this. My boss does not know how to establish and maintain a professional relationship. Every time I talk to her, she is looking the other way. So I need to work on making our business relationship more comfortable and work better for her. Maybe its my age? She is in her 20s. At least I still have this job, besides the mistakes I have been making. I am a bit overwhelmed.
