It's this coming week. Tuesday, I think. I expect that med dude will be the same...friendly and telling me "That sounds good." But actually, to be fair I'm pretty informed about meds by now, after about 30 years. He probably feels like there's not a lot more he can tell me, or do.

November 6th, 2022 (time change).
Went back to 1800mg Gabapentin. Seems to be helping with anxiety. And... Increased Lamictal to 250mg (from 200). That is definitely helping with depression/anxiety. __________________ |

I hope it is, bizi. I awoke feeling extremely anxious, which is odd. My anxiety almost always comes during the late afternoon. So I hope the increase in Lamictal isn't backfiring on me. But then, the first day of the time change is a terrible day to judge medication.

I sleep for about 6 hours, then get up to take care of my cats (Sidney has to have her breakfast, then her insulin). So I'm up for an hour, then I go back to bed and sleep for about 2 more hours.

So I told med dude that I am struggling badly with depression and severe anxiety, to a point at which I am awakening so early that I am very tired every day - which leads to more depression and anxiety...leading to inability to stay asleep the next morning (I take a bunch of stuff to knock me out so I can fall asleep).
I explained to him that I'm having obsessive thinking, my thoughts coming too fast and one tumbling over the next one and I think of all these things I HAVE to do right now. And then I can't sleep. Despite my fondness of this season I have had these symptoms at this time every year for 11 years. Hmm, med dude says. Are you still in therapy? Yes, I am. Twice a week most weeks, and at least once a week. Well, he says, what you're describing sounds more like behavioral issues than things medication can treat. WTseriousF??????? God, I was so angry. Do these idiots ever just Google stuff and read the information that pops up? It's so easy to do that! I swear, I wanted to slam the phone down, go out in the street, and find my drug of choice. I could do it better on my own than what these so-called "educated prescribers" offer. I'm so done with their incompetence and their power trips on top of it. I told him that I'd increased the Lamictal to 250 (from 200) to try to decrease the depression. So he says oh, well...200 is the ceiling dose for Lamictal. NO IT IS NOT!!! And there are med combinations that specifically target certain symptoms. A specific example: Prozac in combination with Zyprexa is used to alleviate bipolar disorder depression. Why do I have such information, but no professional prescribers that I've met in 40 years know it??? I flatly refused to end the phone call without him giving me something to try. I kept saying, Yes, but... He finally agreed to Topamax, which I have never been on. Okay. Then of course, he prescibes a starting dose that is so tiny it's going to take weeks to reach a therapeutic dose. But at least there's something. So, Topamax 11/9/2022 __________________ |

I'm sorry your appt was so frustrating. I would be pissed too. I've had doctors google stuff on me, but nothing that basic (more like for weird med interactions). I hope the topamax helps sooner rather than later, as we all know how sucky depression and anxiety are

Dr. D. is going to assist me in getting off Klonopin. He is an experienced specialist, confident without a trace of arrogance. I told him that various pdocs/prescribers insist on keeping Gabapentin no higher than 1800mg. Oh, no, no, no, Gabapentin is a very helpful medication, he said in his soft manner; in fact, we may take it up as high as...something, I've forgotten, but made so much sense.
He will use the Ashton Method, which I am extremely in favor of. Still on the microdose of Topamax, so no effect yet. __________________ |
