I’m already out of sync with the structure ip gave me because I’m very medicated and can’t seem to stay awake. I’ve only been awake a few hours today and I could totally go right back to sleep now.’ this is gonna make getting up at 5:30 for work hard this weekend. I can barely get up at 10 am. Being stuck at home makes it worse because I can’t go anywhere to fill my time. M dr has me taking 1mg of risperdal 4 times a day!

I’m doing my best but geesh all I wanna do is sleep!

Sorry to hear that, Hallie. I can imagine it's frustrating when you're trying to stay stable, but you're also trying to stay awake at the same time.

I know that some psychiatrists will lower a patient's med dosage once they are stable. Then they will increase it again if the patient becomes unstable again. So, perhaps can you talk to your doctor about this tomorrow via a telephone call or something? If you feel you're stable, mention the intense sedation and ask if you can reduce your dose because it's affecting your quality of life and your ability to hold a job. Or, if you do not feel you are stable, you can ask to see if there is any way to combat the sedation, such as by adding another med (if you're ok with that) or doing certain activities.

Almost a year ago when I was manic, my pdoc increased my seroquel dose to 800, spread out throughout the morning. I could barely move, never mind stay awake. She was trying to control my mania; her next step was IP. Maybe your pdoc is doing the same thing- keeping you out of IP chemically?

I think you just need to try and find some structure and for you a bedtime is important , waking is going to be hard.. just try your best to get up and Make the bed and do something.. Make a cup of coffee... Go sit outside get some fresh air, take your allergy meds. I can blow up your phone in the Am if you want , just let me know

I've been taking high dose Risperdal since the drug was approved. I take 10 mg daily. 8 mg at night and 2 mg in the morning. I also take Seroquel, 50 mg 4 times a day and 100 mg at night. We tried Haldol and a number of first generation antipsychotics but for me it was like taking sugar pills. They had absolutely no effect.

As far your sleepiness due to your daily Risperdal, you will adjust. It takes time to acclimate to the drug. Seroquel used to knock me out but since I take it 4 times daily, I've adjusted to it. The answer to your question is it takes time.

Risperdal is a good drug. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me. It literally gave me my freedom back. The hospital where I was treated was considering indefinite confinement if they couldn't find an antipsychotic that worked for me. Risperdal was that drug.

I agree with sophiebunny, Risperdal made me very sleepy at first and still does after I get the injection but it goes away over time. Hell I'm on 2mg/2x a day (in addition to 37.5 of the injection) and I'm up at 4am right now! Give it some time Hallie, and maybe some extra sleep is what you need right now. You can bring it up with your pdoc and if it continues then you can talk about lowering the dosage or maybe adding something like Provigil.

How are you feeling today, Hallie?

I hope you're feeling less sleepy, or at least slightly less sleepy... but I realize it may take some time to get used to the sedative effects.
