I feel so alone.

You aren't alone with bipolar. I've had it my whole life. What's your biggest concern right now?

I just got diagnosed with Bipolar after my doctor witnessed my manic episode when I began taking Effexor XR and was out of Seroquel. It was absolutely terrifying. However, the manic episodes have been happening for years but I’ve been on Seroquel for years so that masked the episodes.

Bipolar runs in my family. However, I was in denial. After my manic episode in March, I realized that I had to face it.

I am still adjusting to the diagnosis. However, my family and other people have been less than supportive. That has lead to me feeling alone.

I'm so sorry. I know how that aloneness feels...we probably all do, here. Do you have a mental health support team? A support group, maybe?

Well, you aren't alone here. You aren't alone in having bipolar, not even in your family. You can speak your mind here. I hope you can come to terms with your diagnosis. Sending friendly hugs

Hey, hopealwayz, I am also very sorry you are not feeling supported by those "in" your life. You are certainly not alone in that. I think you will find many of us share some aspect of what you describe.

The good news is that there are lots of people here who personally relate to what you are experiencing and who will support you.

Hang in there!!!!

Hi Hope. Welcome to the BP group. I'm sorry you've felt a lack of support from family. This is a very supportive group.

While you are learning about BP I'd recommend checking out www.psycheducation.org It's written by a psychiatrist who specializes in BP and has tons of great information. I still find myself there occasionally 18 years after diagnsosis. '

Feel free to post as many questions as you wish, either in your own threads or you can join the daily check-in thread.

We're very nice here; you'll like it.

Sorry you feel alone and unsupported by those around you. Unfortunately this can be common for people with mental illness, especially Bipolar. As others have said, we are here for you as best we can be. Keep posting. You are most welcome here.

I'm glad you posted this hopealwayz. We want to support you. We understand.

I was sort of lucky that my husband understood my situation. He has had major depression and knew others with bipolar disorder. But my family was confused at first. They did start to understand better over time. I hope yours will, as well.

I also really like the website that BeyondtheRainbow referenced. Dr. Phelps is great. Though his website is very geared to Bipolar 2, people with Bipolar 1 can also benefit a lot from it. Dr. Phelps is nice. I had the luck of him corresponding with me once.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement! This is amazing.

I do have a psychiatrist and I see him weekly and that helps. However, the rest of the family has broken apart.

Sorry to hear that the rest of your family has broken apart. I don't have much support myself either.

Nevertheless, I'm glad your weekly pdoc appointments have been helping you. He sounds like a great part of your support system.

Do you have a therapist too who can help?

My pdoc is my therapist. I’m glad that I’m seeing him later. I got horrible news earlier and I am trying to hold it together although now the tears are starting to flow.

Sorry to hear about the horrible news. I hope you were able to talk to your pdoc about it. Were you?

We're here if you ever feel comfortable talking about it. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to though.
Thanks for this!
