That many people seem to confuse bipolar and borderline personality disorder. More generally, that bipolar means emotionally labile. This is made worse by people who use the term "bipolar" casually.

That just because we rely on mental health care we can't be independent and high-achieving people.

That depression means you're weak.

That there's something wrong with our intelligence.

the classic "people with bipolar have their moods flip back and forth unexpectedly. one minute they're happy; another minute, they're sad. then another minute, they're angry."

that makes me laugh

the same people that tell us to take our meds and it will be better overnight are usually the same people who then turn round and say you don't really need them.. what you need is an attitude ajustment or what ever.
Thanks for this!

Interestingly, I've noticed that most of the time the very people who judge the use of medication to treat BD are people who would benefit from being on meds themselves.

in my opinion though, this is standard behaviour- not just applying to meds, but to anything.

not enough people admit that they need help, I guess

people will do that kind of thing

That you can’t be successful or work professionally with people.

That bipolar disorder is a popular disorder, and you probably don’t have it.

That you just flip back and forth between moods all day.

That you are prone to attacks of rage.

Official lines sometimes piss me off a bit when they are not actually true. This happens a lot irl. It can at times contribute to stigma and other issues.

That everyone with bipolar is prone to attacks of rage.

That people with bipolar will not be “a success”

That it equals low iq

People with bipolar shouldn't have kids as well how can they look after kids on their own or in a family.... this was said to me by a friend

The church can cure us..... I highly doubt it again from a different friend who goes to a whacky church not a traditional church.
