has anyone used (or still use) betterhelp? (the online therapy site advertised here?)

signed up to it once and got as far as being refered a therapist, but then realised you had to pay for it so had to leave

sadly my financial situation can't support subscription services (which is why I also can't use netflix or spotify)

There's 7 Cups of Tea. The initial guidance is free, but then they push for you to pay to see a therapist. And it's not cheap. If I'm going to pay for a therapist, I'd pay to see one in person. Although, in these times everything has changed.

I've used the free listener service a few times

in my experience anyway, not everyone their has interest in listening to you (their are some good listeners, but not many)

I have also used blah therapy's listening service

complete waste of time

a lot of people who go on that site... shouldn't be going on a therapy site. I'll leave it at that. it's sad

I choose the Better Help because I dont want to do a face to face therapy session. I feel face to face is going to be a waste of my time. I don't like to open up to people especially a stranger but, that is just my personal preference. The last couple of days have been pure hell. I just want to sleep and cry

It’s how I met my therapist! We really hit it off and when I couldn’t afford it anymore he switched us to a private setup through email and I pay him a small fee monthly. It’s great for what it is but it’s so expensive.

I have not used this. A good friend tried 7 cups of tea and paid for a therapist through it. Left a negative review which was not published.

Whenever a therapist gives that reason, I have to wonder. I mean...who does fit into their little category? I guess someone who only needs a few sessions of CBT or something, not someone who needs long-term therapy.

I'm glad you gave us that warning, Fuzzy!

What does he charge you for the private set-up?

It varies — he knows my situation at all times and sometimes it’s “credit” (he does it for free), or when I have some money $25-50 per month. He’s definitely deserving of a lot more but it’s affordable for me. Right now it’s pro bono until I get on my feet, he insists that I wait a month or two before I start paying again. He’s very understanding

That's really excellent! I don't imagine there are any in-person therapists who would charge such a low price.
