I started Seroquel this July, and let's say, we're not compatible to put it nicely. Dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, and restless legs came with this drug. At first, my doctor put me on 100 mg and I slept for two days. After those days ended, I no longer slept and the doctor upped my dosage to 400 (but I only did 300 mg). After a few days and I mean few, I decided I did not want to continue the upped dosage and tapered back to 100 mg. I learned how to pill cut down to 50 mg for another two weeks and finally I'm on 25 mg. Come this Saturday I'm done.
I expect a mild to moderate withdrawal (I was feeling some effects as I tapered down). I bought Melatonin, sleep bath, valerian and lemon balm to have at my disposal in case insomnia strikes (My sleep has pretty much been broken). Should I have anything else handy?

I have written a bit on this topic. There is little published on Seroquel discontinuation syndromes. But based on the other related meds I think you should expect a relatively smooth landing. Just my take. Hugs.

ZzzQuil usually helps me sleep, at least to fall asleep for a few hours.
If you're having any problems with other w/d symptoms (brain zaps, for example) Advil usually gives me some relief. Good luck, LaLa!

You have to look at the half life of any meds you want to get off of.
I am no Doctor so this is just my experience .. When I have tapered off a med I cut down slowly so that blow back isn't so harsh for my brain.. each decrease I would take for 1-2 weeks, Then I'd cut dose down again for 1-2 weeks . When I step down to the lowest dose a week then Id go every other day for a week then every other night for a week then I'd go every every 3 days for a week.. All psych meds need time to work. Now your brain has to go back to work sans meds Good luck ![]()

I hope that other than maybe a little sleep issue, you won't have any other withdrawal symptoms. I've gone off Seroquel in the past with no other issues. It was, for me, far easier to stop than other medications. July wasn't that long ago. I would worry more if you had been on it for years.
We are all different, though. What could be a breeze for one may not be a breeze for another. |

I was on Seroquel for a few months before stopping. Like you, I tapered off slowly. I don't think I noticed any serious withdrawal effects. I did have insomnia, but that's not too unusual for me, so I can't be sure it was due to the Seroquel. I tried melatonin, and it helped a little but not much. You can temporarily try a benzo in moderation if the sleep issues really get too bad. The bad news is that the withdrawal effects vary widely per individual, so they can be hard to predict.
