So my CPN has finally talked to my Psychiatrist. They are both happy for me to get the depot injection but it would only be for the Aririprazole not the Depakote. CPN has said I could try the injection only and see how it goes.
This means I won't be administering my own med and instead they will fortnightly or monthly administer the injection. Thus taking control from me and solely on to them only. Which would mean I can't refuse meds etc as I'm not in control. I've never really thought about this, but I don't know if I can give control to them? She had said she thinks I'm struggling to know what's best for me med and non med related What are your thoughts or opinions on the injection? |

I think that would be a good thing. Maybe it helps not to think of it as giving control to them but rather as letting them take care of you.

I think trying it would be wise. You could free yourself from the internal battle you've had going on for a very long time. Give it a shot for say a year or so and see how you do. Give it time to play out and then look at the results objectively. If it is indeed a bad call, there should be proof of that. You could then discuss that proof with your team and change course at that time.
If you don't try, you'll never know. And... I do not view this as a control issue. I view it as a strategic opportunity to tackle two of your greatest symptoms which are denial and med compliance. If you go with this approach you give yourself the opportunity to take those out of the equation and just focus on being as healthy as possible. That's a good thing. ![]() |

I was on the shot for over a year. it's the best option if you don't travel. I only stopped because I moved clinics then moved back clinics. Yes it ties you into a regular appointment but if you can handle frequent appointments I would do that.

I would give it a good college try. I would think you can opt out if its not to your taste. Besides it really is one less daily thing to remember when you look at it.

You're fortunate! I wish I could get my meds in one shot, rather than having to deal with pills twice every day.
I say definitely go with it. You'll probably find the shot less stressful.

I get a monthly shot - it's easy and I love it and it takes away the temptation to stop my medication

If I could get monthly shots of my night meds that would save me waking up to see my night meds still in their blister pack.

I think you should try it. I get an injection every two weeks. It's helpful. I still have to take other meds 3x a day, but I know if I stopped those I wouldn't totally be up a creek without a paddle. It's also kinda easier to stay on the pills I take with the injection because my thinking is all or nothing in that if I can't stop all of them I might as well stay on all of them. Also, the nurse is really nice and checks in with me and emails my pdoc/therapist when I'm obviously not doing too hot, which is a plus.
