Trying to get in the moment by saying hi stupid memories flooding my head...my therapist and I talked about carrying a small notebook and jotting down the gist of the memory right away, to get it out of my head. I haven’t purchased a notebook yet and really don’t want to carry one around. Mostly memories of best friends, a couple. I challenged their poor handling of their nonprofit for kids 2 years ago. They were running it into the ground. Anyway, they proceeded to call all the board of directors and told them I was manic. I was being angry. Forty years friends! Bam, attack me at my weakest point. They had even helped me through wild mood swings. I can’t get this out of my head. Comes back to me all day long every day. Could I have done things differently? Had we changed so much in 40 years and not even noticed? I guess its a moot point. I just want it to stop. Guess I will buy a notebook.

There doesn't seem to be much discussion among mental health providers about getting stuck on memories. Well, at least mine don't address it much, and it's a big sticking point for me.

So Sorry to hear that you're struggling. A notebook or some sort of online page or anything like that or other similar means of writing may prove useful. i'd also suggest to try finding as many distraction as you possibly can if these thougths are bothering you. Please do consider contacting your doctors if things don't seem to go Well. We are here for you. I hope that writing down these memories is helpful to you. Maybe expressing some grrrrrr in writing might help. Good luck

I will try writing them down. I kept a journal for a long time, but it didn't help to change anything. It got my thoughts down, but I kept churning through the ruminations and memories. I'll try again. Interestingly, after writing this post, I took 5mg of Adderall in order to get the focus to work on a painting that I couldn't quite "get" to. That's the ADHD. It's like there is an invisible wall between me and the thing that I have to do. With the Adderall, the flow of memories subsided and I was able to work. I wonder if there is also an attention component to this. I'll discuss with my therapist. Thanks everyone!

I'm so glad the Adderall helped. Sounds wonderful. I find that when I'm stuck with ruminating on something the other thoughts come in, but they're spinning here and there, close and far, but that 1 thing I'm stuck on is big and neon, demanding my attention and focus. It would feel great to have clarity.
Doing something creative with that clarity is the best. __________________ |
