I've noticed that we all have quotes from songs or books or poems that resonate with us. I'm hoping that we can share these. I, for one, am very interested in understanding how these affect us. Just one quote per response, and share as many as you wish as we go along. I'll start with a song by Nat King Cole. I have many others I'd like to share, many much darker, but this one gets me through difficult times and I'd rather start with a positive one than a negative one.

Pick Yourself Up

Pick yourself up...
Take a deep breath...
Dust yourself off
And start all over again

Nothing's impossible, I have found
For when my chin is on the ground
I pick myself up
Dust myself off
And start all over again

Don't lose your confidence
If you slip
Be grateful for a pleasant trip
And pick yourself up
Dust yourself off
And start all over again

Work like a soul inspired
Until the battle of the day is won
You may be sick and tired
But you'll be a man, my son

Will you remember the famous men
Who had to fall to rise again
They picked themselves up
Dust themselves off
And start'd all over again

Some get stoned
Some get strange
Sooner or later
it all gets real
Walk on.

Thanks Fuzzy, i really like that one.

Mine's not so hopeful but it's apt:

Take it easy, take it easy,
Don't let the sound
Of your own wheels
Drive you crazy.

Love those Beth, Fuzzy and whatever! sooner or later it all gets real, walk on...those who matter don't mind...boredom can't kill you but I wish it could. I feel all of them. OK, this is a dark one. I've been part of some weird, dark experiences in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., sexually, drug-oriented, and psychologically. But ultimately, this is how I used to experience my brain. I apologize in advance if this is too dark.

Extreme ways that help me
They help me out late at night
Extreme places I had gone
That never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone

Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Like it always does, always does
I closed my eyes and closed myself
And closed my world and never open up to anything

I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things could cut me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't even believe

- Extreme Ways, Moby

as an addendum...I am not proud of these things and I'm not trying to be sensationalist...they are just part of my experience.

This is from one of my new poems that I wrote a couple days ago . I'm quite fond of this particular part of the poem!

Joy is nigh where great grief waits
All hung above in my fates
And to this life I see
A reflection that is me.

All lost is what I see
A tune that's longing to be free
With joy a distant memory,
I fall into the darkened sea.

Music is a soothing care
Where I follow it near to there
A somber sleep with me does fall
With voices' shadows me do call.

@wolftrap: Hey! I just discovered Moby a few weeks ago! Nice to meet another fan. It's so great to hear dark lyrics set to electronica. I like the sound but it's usually about love, sex or dancing which bore me. I like "Natural Blues" best of all. I just heard it on local radio one night, an alt-rock station and it grabbed me by the jugular. I also like "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" and "Find My Baby." Such an interesting artist. I listened to your track and i like it and the video is cool. What other Moby songs do you like?

No worries about being too dark. I think this forum is the space for it. Here's another dark piece from the movie "Natural Born Killers" -- one of my favorite movies of all time:

Possible trigger:

@BethRags: That's a great quote from The Eagles. Very apt for this over-thinker.

"You are unique, just like everyone else."
I don't know who said it initially but I heard it from Warren Miller films.

@whatever2013 One of my favorite Moby songs is "One of These Mornings", specifically the Patti Labelle version that was in the movie Miami Vice directed by Michael Mann. You might want to check out that soundtrack, it's full of great electronic stuff.

Remember not our faulty pieces
Remember not our rusted parts
It's not the petty imperfections that define us but
The way we hold our hearts
And the way we hold our heads

La Dispute- Nine

Here is one of my poems, written over a decade ago.

The Marsh

A chance encounter reverberates throughout a life –
not just one, but two, three, four and more,
resounding through salt marsh and grass,
out to sea where the wind catches waves
and rolls with them ‘round the world, back to you,
where you stand, face to face with yourself, to see or not see,
as the cycle continues.

Between the in-tide and the out-tide
time coalesces into an instant.
Here we fall before our lives,
stumbling circles in the mud, knee-deep fishermen
without rubber thigh-highs to help keep us dry.
