First of all, I haven’t posted in awhile. I hope all of you are doing as well as possible. My depression has finally lifted after many months. I’m not sure how long you guys go, but my first mania was almost 1 year ago and lasted about 4 months while my depression lasted almost 7 months.
I’m finally at a point in my life where I feel normal again and I’m so relieved I was able to make it. I know not all of us who experience bipolar do. My 21 year old daughter recommended that I watch a Netflix TV series called “Spinning Out” about a mom and daughter who have bipolar. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it during my depression but this week I decided to try it. I was hooked. I don’t think anyone can get bipolar right in movies and tv, but this show came pretty close to my experience with it. I lived and grew up with a mom with bipolar, but in my case we never knew she had it. Now I have it and experienced some similar things that happened in the show. I know they didn’t get it 100% right but I love the fact that it explained how you can still succeed while living with bipolar. I wasn’t quite so sure I could come back from it and I did. I’m a teacher and thought I was going to lose my job. I found a friend in this group that helped me and I made it. I’ve had to conceal what I have from people and I also have found people I can trust to share it with. I was so disappointed that there is only one season of this show, that I created an IMDb just to leave a positive review. There needs to be more shows like this that are worth watching and help inspire people like us. If you decide to watch it don’t judge the stuff they get wrong, but look for the positive messages, struggle, and family bonds that the show offers. I really hope they change their mind and create a season 2!! Last edited by NaoSky; Mar 01, 2021 at 04:07 PM.. |

I liked spinning out I thought it was similar to me tbh. I could see a lot of myself in them both. I'm gutted there is no 2nd series

I'm always glad to hear bipolar is getting some positive attention in the media and that it's not a dirty little secret anymore like 30 years ago when i was diagnosed. I'll put this series on my list of things to watch. Always happy to have another thing to do in these COVID times. Thanks for posting!

I'm on the 4th episode. Been watching for hours! Do you know how many seasons there are?

Now I just stopped on episode 7 I think. Too bad there's only the one season. They've created a complicated story line which I think should continue.

I’m sad to say only one!! I’m trying to fight for it to come back. I set up an IMDb account and left a review. I told my daughter to do the same. I also used the hashtag #SaveSpinningout. I think it originally didn’t have a big following. I would have watched it even if I didn’t have bipolar but it meant more to me now. I even want to write to the writer/producer, she needs to know people really did care about it. She was an ice skater and in an interview said she spoke with psychiatrists to make sure she got more accurate portrayals of what it’s like to have it. Most of it was believable for me!

So they end it with them about to compete? That's totally not a good ending!

For the ice skating part of it, no, terrible cliff hanger. But I did like the closure with the family scenes. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone that may watch it!!

The last episode really seemed to wrap everything up except the skating part. I guess they're leaving it open just in case?

I ran across the show one night when I was bored and searching desperately on Netflix for something different to watch. I was hooked from the first episode and watched the whole season in three days. I wish they would’ve made a second season. I thought it was good and pretty close to the reality of the kind of bipolar disorder I live with.
