Does posting here help you to understand yourself more?

Does posting here maybe help you to understand and empathise with others more?

ah fuzzy Are you ok?
It helps me to understand and empathize with others.
We all come from different back grounds and ages.
I am almost 60 which is hard to believe.
I have really slowed down. I can't do what I was able to do. I am so tired
these days.

It seems no two people are alike. I always come here hoping to find someone like me. To no avail. But it does help me understand others and not feel so alone.

Thanks for sharing. I agree about no two people being alike. I don't think I've read many of your posts (or maybe I have a bad memory, I sometimes do).

Someone else had said about memory, I came across an old post. I sometimes come here looking for some ''answers'' as well as support which is not forthcoming from the professionals

While I may have a ''bad memory''... I'm sure I've blocked out some traumas, while others I remember far too clearly...

I also think that my ''bad memory'' is often due to anxiety... information does not get as far as the memory centre. So it's more of an attention and anxiety issue than a ''bad memory''

A therapist simply said I had '' a very poor memory''.....This was said a long time ago....... idk why some (irl) say these things with NO support or explanation. Oh well their lack of skills or interest is not MY problem. It is THEIR stuff.

I agree, coming here helps me not feel so alone and to understand others more.

Understand myself? I suppose a bit. The practice of writing is a grounding technique that promotes introspection.

Understand others? There are certainly some limitations to understanding people one only knows on a forum, yet some open up in some deeper ways behind a degree of anonymity.

Empathize with others more? Absolutely! As I wrote, others often open up in ways on forums they might not face-to-face. That can create a situation where one understands others' feelings, emotions, and struggles a little better, leading to empathy.

It's likely that some online friends may not have been friends in a face-to-face world...and vice versa. The addition of appearance and different forms of interpreted communication are factors not applicable on forums.

Yes, being here definitely helps me understand myself. A lot! And yes, when I make an effort to understand others and to be empathetic I find that I can. And when I do not make that effort that in itself teaches me something about myself.

Good and thoughtful questions, Fuzzy!

And yeah...I'm tired, too. I'm 59 and I feel like I have the energy of someone who is 75.
