I just got notice from at&t that we are going to be required to enter in our area codes for local calls. I just checked all of my contacts in my phone and all but one had the area code in my phone list, so I added it.
so go thru your contact lists and make sure your local phones have their area codes with the local numbers.If not then just edit them and add the local area codes. bizi

I would think it would be for anybody in the original area code. It means the original area code got split into 2 (or more?) area codes. Because of fax machines, cell phones, new housing and other development. Growth!

How strange. New tech stuff every day, it seems. I have at&t - thanks, bizi. Fortunately, I have all the area codes for my contacts for some reason.

That’s only just now happening for you? It’s been like this in Dallas, TX for many years. We have 3 local area codes and now they are about to add the 4th. Too many people live here.

Actually, its because 988 will later this year be the new suicide hotline number, like instead of 911.
There are 37 states that have a 988 exchange, e.g., 998-1234, possible phone numbers. So, those states/area codes will now be required to dial the whole 10-digit phone number. Other area codes within the state may still be able to use 7-digit dialing. |

We don't have to dial an area code here unless it's one different from our own.

Where I live we’ve had to use area codes for local calls for the past decade or so. No big deal, although it was kind of annoying at first.
