I just got prescribed Wellbutrin to my cocktail and I'm Bipolar. I feel like I haven't felt in years but I'm wondering is this what normal people feel like when they are happy or is this hypomania starting? How do you know?

Good question. How long have you been taking Wellbutrin?

That's a pretty high starting dose of Wellbutrin. In my experience it could certainly be the Wellbutrin that is picking up your mood. Let's hope so!

i agree with the wise and wonderful BethRags about hoping it is the med kicking in. Perhaps one way to know for sure is to wait a few days/weeks and see how it goes from there. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @simplydivine1030, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

MC has a good idea - give it another week or 2 and see where you are then.

Simplydivine, I am glad to read that you are feeling very good right now. Of course you don't really want to become any level of manic, though. What I hope for you is happy stability. I can't know if/when you may be hypomanic, but I suggest you contact your psychiatrist, quickly, to let her/him know how you are feeling. They may be best at gauging your mood state. They may even wish to adjust your dose so that you have long-lasting wellness, and not the start of something concerning. I agree with BethRags that 300 mg would be an aggressive starting dose on Wellbutrin. I agree with you that one week for it to make a huge difference is quick, though definitely not unheard of. If by chance your dose is eventually decreased, it can always be increased again, if depression symptoms return.

Do you live with someone who knows that you have bipolar disorder? It can be helpful when those near you clue you in when stable happy turns into something outside the norm, in terms of your behavior. Also, logging experiences during the day, and then reviewing them at night, can sometimes be telling.

Thank you so much everyone! I forgot to mention I started at 150 for a week and then she told me to start the 300 after a week. Maybe the increase was too soon? I like the idea of writing down m y symptoms during the day! My family will likely be able to tell if I start acting hypomanic. I just get nervous because my Doctor said there is always a chance for Mania on this med.

Well, if you're feeling good without the indications of mania, I'd say the increase was okay. Of course, checking with your pdoc is essential. My psychiatrist cautioned (with regard to Wellbutrin) about watching for irritability, being short-tempered and on edge...that type of behavior.

You also might want to keep an eye on your blood pressure. I had to stop bupropion because it gave me high blood pressure and tachycardia.
