I don’t mean songs that are catchy and your singing them to yourself. Just to give an example the sound of my dad‘s cane hitting the wood floor gets stuck in my head and it repeats the sound when it’s not happening like right now my dad is not at my house and yet sometimes at night I can hear his cane hitting the wood floor as if he’s here. It’s kind of freaking me out a little I just wanted some tips on how to get rid of it.

I am not sure I have any experience with this

the closest I have got to this is when my dog died, for weeks after I could hear her running about the kitchen and playing with her toys, but later on I read an artickle that said that it's just a way pets let you know they are still their and started to think nothing of it

my one is smell, in particular blood (not sure why blood, just is) I can smell it without having any near me or on me. it really is strange

So Sorry you're experiencing this struggle of yours. i partly agree with the wise and wonderful raging vortex about having never really experienced this, i am not sure if it is related to bipolar or not since i am not bipolar myself. Perhaps your pdoc may be able to help you so i'd suggest to talk to him about this if you haven't already. i Hope and Pray things will improve then. Please do not give up. Hugs. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Bipolarchic14, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

Bipolarchic, yes, definitely! The sounds can be musical (but different than getting a song stuck in my head; it's as if each note is so separate from the others, and that one note or sound will repeat over and over), or it can be other sounds. For example, the ring tone of my phone plays over and over in my mind. I keep thinking I hear it, even when the phone is not ringing. And there are all sorts of other noises that get stuck and keep repeating in my mind.

When I first saw my current pdoc a few years ago I was able to lie in bed and "listen" to an entire Pink Floyd album - but it was all in my mind. The sounds had imprinted there and stayed stuck. My pdoc said that is common with BD.

Oh - sorry, you asked for tips on how to get rid of it. I've never been able to get rid of the sounds except maybe with medication. For me, they're part of mania. So they come in an episodic way, in general.

This is something altogether different, but I've had the chorus of a Wu-Tang Clan song stuck in my head for weeks now. I can't shake it...

"Cash rules everything around me! C.R.E.A.M.! Get the money! Dollar, dollar bill, y'all!"

I'm not sure it is entirely different. "Ear worms" generally last for an hour, or a few hours - a day, at the very most. Weeks of hearing the same music in your mind is something else, I think.

I feel like it happens when my anxiety is up. Like when I am home at night by myself hearing things that aren’t there. I did read about ear worms. . They suggest chewing gum. I’m going to try that. When I have a song stuck in my head I’m OK with it because I just listen to it over and over again until I’m done with it. But annoying sounds drive me crazy. At one point we had an issue with our water heater and it would make this loud screeching noise every once in a while. Well that sound got stuck in my head and for freaking hours I couldn’t tell whether or not it was still doing it or not I was sitting there in the middle of the night opening the basement door to listen to it to see if I got louder or if it was just something in my head.

I get random quotes from movies and TV shows stuck in my head. Whenever I’m in a stressful situation I think nonstop about certain quotes that can somewhat relate to what I’m stressing about. And thinking about them makes me feel better.
