So everyone knows my car is in the shop and we have no idea how much it's going to cost current total $500, we're scrapping it at ~$1000 Meanwhile:

I'm spending $175 on a dress for a wedding not happening until at least next year. My defense beautiful dress that I can find reasons to wear... like date night and it was $50 off ending last night.

I just got up and spent $23 on a 4+ month supply of toilet paper. We need toilet paper but no one's stock piling it. That said hurricane session is coming up and $5/month for toilet paper isn't that bad.

I also ordered protein shake mix. The kind both my husband and I can stomach. I already spent a bunch of money on protein mix that's inedible and trash but I was trying to find something cheaper then the premade stuff I usually have. I found the powder form of what I normally drink, again in bulk, so I bought it.

Then there's the milk. As we all know I suck at actually food prep. I'll drink the shakes. So I got into my head the more protein for me the better. So for my boys I bought regular skim milk (they go through 3 gallons a week or more) but I hate milk but I need it for the shakes. So I bought ultra filtered, higher protein, less sugar milk for me to try. Again a gallon (a lot) for 1 person (~1-2 weeks worth) at 2x the price of a regular gallon of milk. together it costs less then the $4 protein shake pre-made that the fancy milk makes but it's still more expensive then it could be. At the same time if I drink it isn't it worth it. If I don't drink it my boys will.

I know financially I can't keep spending or we'll have no food or car but everything has a point to it. I may be feeling bad because I'm spending money on myself, I may be over spending but I AM over extending us when we're tight with things.

So I don't plan on buying anything else until the cars fixed but is this a warning sign?

Well, i don't think i am in a position to tell you how much to spend or where to spend it but i think giving yourself some time to think about what you're buying and if it is really necessary may prove to be useful. Ask yourself if you need it or if you can buy that at a later date when some prices may change and be lower, for example. i Hope you'll manage this without problems. i'd suggest to talk to your doctor as well to see if this may be mania/bipolar. Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Miguel'smom, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

What you've described is, to me, smart shopping.

I don't find it to be excessive because you're buying things you essentially will need. Now if you were buying a ton of new outfits, getting manicures/pedicures when you don't need it and buying a new car, etc...then there could be cause for concern.

Okay, I'm just concerned because of the limited budget. I'm still going to bring it up to my t as something to watch out for. I guess it's just guilt I bought stuff for myself and I wasted money on things.

When I am hypo I start spending like a maniac on useless things. Or things that I feel is necessary but it isn't. Sounds like you are doing some smart shopping.

It doesn’t sound excessive but I will tell you I can feel your pain about wanting to overspend. I think the only thing that I would hold off on if it were me would be the dress. If it means a lot to you though I mean it’s really not that expensive. The only reason I say that is I was in a wedding or supposed to be in a wedding for my brother and it got postponed due to the pandemic it’s been over a year now. Technically I don’t even know if I will fit in the dress by the time it comes around so I decided to leave it be for now. I will tell you this though, if I feel as though my spending is becoming excessive I stop buying things just like you are until I can sort out what’s priority and what’s not. I actually had a full conversation with my therapist a couple weeks ago about it. We were going through accepting and rejecting things. I listed off everything I want which by the way was not essentials like what you’re going through right now. To give you an example new phone rejected, new laptop rejected, Nintendo switch rejected, new clothing wardrobe accepted ( under certain conditions, New car rejected, Apple TV rejected, computer to learn coding on ( discussions to be continued), new bedspread rejected, instapot rejected, vitamix rejected, new dish set ( gorgeous polish pottery over $1000 rejected. I seriously hated my therapist after that session. Just saying.

You bought things that have a purpose.. If you were buying dozens of blow up zebra balloons I'd say .. Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy ,, but your buying things you need and will eat.

There used to be a rooster somewhere near our house. Crowed all day, I always used to think they only acted as alarm clocks (well, they do in the cartoons! that taught me not to take stereotypes seriously lol).
I feel your pain though, I’ve been buying stuff I know I don’t need and feel guilty about it. Some will be used but most of it is frivolous.

I would like to add some irony with the pottery set that I want it’s actually being advertised on this site at the bottom of the page at all times. It’s like just sitting there teasing me.
