I'm not experiencing hypomania now, but I'm asking for the future.

When you're experiencing hypomania or you notice you're in mania, what are things you do to get out of mania or reduce your excitement or mood?

...or, one can run naked through the streets in a thunderstorm, screaming, "I can most certainly outrun you, Thor -- you pitiful god of lightning!" While that sounds liberating, the end result might not be pleasant, though.

I gotta say that this is very similar to what first went through my mind. It's sometimes good to be a bit humorous about the disorder. Dude, it is scary how you and I often think alike!

More seriously, my usual first steps are "lay low" (avoid overexciting situations...meaning going out in public), "try to get myself to sleep", "maybe take a prn (it's good to have one). And if it is stubborn or worsening call my doctor.

When becoming hypomanic I usually will have pressured speech, sleep less, more agitation. The worst thing is I will want to keep going I have trouble sitting still for long periods of time. I also like really fast rock music. I drink coke like crazy. More energy. Wow that describes how I am feeling now. I better be careful.

Spend some time each night to rest. Even if you can't sleep, lay down in the dark and relax for a bit. Idk if this actually helps, but it seems to help me to be in darkness as much as possible. Opposite of light therapy for depression I guess.

I experience this a lot too. Lately I've been on the hypomanic side, although today is an off day due to skipping Lamictal and feeling emotional. But I have been having a difficult time sitting still, and it is interfering with my work.

I am finding sensory-deprivation helpful, which is a fancy way of saying i sit or lay in a dark silent room withan eye-shade on to block out every last bit of light.

If i get too restless, i allow quiet familiar music. But no brain-frying TV or computer or phone or conversation or podcasts. I find it very important to deprive my eyes as they as so highly-developed in humans.

Seems to be working, i've been coasting on a nice modulated high for weeks now, having tons of fun and getting a lot done and treating myself very well.

Hugs,

Jane.

When my thoughts are racing and my brain won't shut up. I just sit, put my headphones on, and listen to instrumental music. Or, I grab my crayons and draw the shapes and colors I see in my head.
