I'm in a manic episode. A change in meds is helping a bit. One of my problems is hunger. I've been SOoooo hungry. Not physical hunger. Emotional hunger. I just had breakfast and already I'm thinking about the next thing to eat. Luckily I don't have any snack foods around, mainly healthy stuff.

Normally I read about lack of appetite with mania. If you've wanted to eat all of the time, what have you done about it? As I said, I don't keep junk food in the house. I drink tea, coffe, and water to feel full. I don't eat fried foods. I don't drink alcohol or other high calorie drinks.

Calories are calories and too many have led to a little weight gain.
Thanks for this!

It's possible. I went off bupropion, which can suppress your appetite. So now perhaps my hunger is not being suppressed as a result.
Thanks for this!

i agree with the wise and wonderful BethRags that it may be due to the med change. Perhaps talking about this with your Pdoc may prove useful. i think it may be worth trying. Perhaps try to contact him. It's good that you don't have snacks around the house at the moment at least. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @imaginethat, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

If it's not the meds, I can certainly see it being the mania, itself. After all, for some, mania brings on "food, wine, and/or debauchery" literally and/or figuratively. Such "hunger or thirst" is not uncommon at all. With mania can come heightened senses, making things taste and feel and look extra wonderful. It also often brings disinhibition and impulsivity. That makes usual sobriety or self-control go out the door.

I hope your mood levels soon. It's nice to see you back again.

Very interesting. I stopped drinking many years ago and have wanted to start again lately. That makes sense based on what you're saying. Heightened senses is one of the great things about mania as we all know! That helps explain some other things that are going on.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Good to hear from you, soup du jour.

I eat everything when I'm manic and the first week or two of med changes.

For me, mania certainly triggers an increased appetite for food, drink....you name it. If it’s bad for me, I want it. If it’s good for me, I want as much as it takes to be bad for me. I relate to you saying that you are immediately thinking of the next meal.

When I get manic and also hyopomanic I eat a lot of chocolate. But my mania is also usually in relation to my PMS. So I think that may be why I get a chocolate craving. But I’ve inhaled 3 chocolate paydays in one sitting before. Now I try to just make room in my day if I want chocolate.

The day after I get my injection my hunger can sometimes get out of control.

So I'm not going crazy. There's a reason for my hunger! I'm going to talk to my pdoc about it.
