I'm on a fairly small dose (9mg/day split up) and it's stopped helping me so instead of increasing it and then that helping for two days and becoming unhelpful, rinse, repeat, I'm going to just stop it. It was mostly for akathisia from risperdal which I'm no longer on and I'm just taking it for sleep.

I talk to my med provider in about a month so I'll tell her then. Or I'll tell the nurse when I get my shot. I don't think either will mind me doing this before bringing it up to them.

They loused up my rx anyway. Gave me 2mg tablets but no 5's.

I take requip for my risperdal akathesia. It was awful without it! They have me those two in the IP and I’ve been stable for nearly two years now! I also take Valium
Very sparingly.

Just be careful

Maybe it's good that they gave you 2mg tablets, because that way you can more easily taper off slowly (like reducing by 2mg every few weeks) instead of stopping cold turkey. The latter can be dangerous with benzos. In any case I think it's a great decision to stop, because as you say the alternative is an endless cycle of dosage increases.

As you may be aware, from my writings elsewhere on this forum, i am on a benzo taper using Valium. I am down to 5mg from 20mg. I decreased by 1mg a week, with pauses for life events over the past eight months.

I have found that if i go lower than 5mg i get aggressive. Below 2mg i feel fear. I've leveled off at 5mg for the foreseeable future. I expect i will find that i need 5mg as a maintenance dose permanently.

You are starting from a lower dose so hopefully your experience will be different.

Be cautious and stay in touch with your doctor.

Wishing you all the best!

So last night I just took one 5mg tablet. I woke up a lot but I always fell back asleep pretty quickly (had a giant tumbler of chamomile mint tea on my night stand and I think that helped). I'm shaking but I think that has more so something to do with it being 45F and the heat is off and I'm wearing short shorts. I was on valium for about three months I think so long enough but not too long. At one point in the hospital they were giving me 5mg every 4 hours because of my severe reaction to 50mg of risperdal consta (I don't remember this, but the nurses said I was very sick and it's a good thing I Dont' remember) but after those two weeks they weened me down to 2mg PRN and 5mg at night and 9mg just stuck.

I don't foresee any problems with this. I'm taking 5mg until I run out of fives then I'll take 2x2mg then 1x2mg and stopping from that point shouldn't be so bad.

I'm down to 2mg at bedtime. Haven't noticed a difference other than being more restless which is easily solved by going for walks. I think I timed this well because it's getting dark earlier at night and staying dark later in the morn' and it's that time of year where I actually start sleeping on my own again.

Thanks for reading my poetry, Beth!
