I got banned from Yahoo! Answers for sarcastically encouraging teenage pregnancy.

Do you know any programming languages?

I’m familiar with the C++ as my cousin who was rooming with me while going to the university was learning that one. But I’m not able to program anything.

What do you think makes someone a “good” person?

I think a "good" person is one who has the ability to empathize with other beings...animals, people, all living things.

In which city in the United States would you like to spend a week?

I wouldn't mind going back to Portland OR. It's the only city I've been to that didn't smell like a city. Also, having the city block sized bookstore that is Powell's in the city limits doesn't hurt either!

In what world city would you want to spend a week?

What kind of animal would you be if you had a choice?

Powell's is amazing @Aurelius710! If you ever go to San Francisco be sure to check out City Lights bookstore. All the levels, all the rooms. You will want to live there.

I spent a week in Dublin @BeyondtheRainbow. I loved, loved it. I could live there. Oh, the cool and misty. And green. Yes.

Rod Stewart. Never liked the sound of his voice and most of his songs don't appeal to me. Also, sure wish he'd finally get a better haircut.

What part of the day is generally your favorite, and why?

Evening because it tends to be quieter and more peaceful. I'm not either fighting to sleep or fighting to stay awake at that time. There's no pressure to sleep or usually to do anything social if I don't want to.

Do you ever fight sleep because you fear your dreams?

I very seldom have severe nightmares. The worst dreams I have (maybe once a month) are the ones in which I dream I'm urinating in the toilet. Upon waking in the morning, I find that's not where I was urinating. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

What is your greatest fear? Describe it, if it's not too disturbing.

Becoming homeless again. It’s a young persons game.

What is your favorite sleeping position?

The one where I'm unconscious. If I'm honest though, on my back with a pillow over my eyes works beautifully!

This requires a bit of explanation, but have you ever been in a functional sensory deprivation chamber? I had an apartment in college where when you went to bed, there was no light coming from outside, courtesy of a very good curtain, the bedroom door let no light in from the rest of the apartment and unless people were screaming or the central air was on, no sound entered the room. It got trippy!

Anybody ever find themselves in a location like that?

Not quite, but the house we've been renting has windows and walls that do block out most sound other than the very loud bus that passes by intermittently, as we're on a bus line. I don't mind absolute quiet. A lot better than TV or music in the background. The noises I do fall asleep beautifully to are summer/meadow insects and heavy rains with thunder.

What sounds, smells, or physical sensations are most relaxing or mood uplifting for you?

One of the most pleasant to me smells is ozone after a summer storm. Otherwise my lavender essential oil with bergamot.

If you could only save one material thing from a fire what would it be?

Of my personal stuff? That's hard, mostly because my husband would likely be hurt if I didn't select something he gave me. However, I'd otherwise choose something my mother gave me. Maybe my Fanny Farmer Cookbook, only because it contains my mother's note to me. If the "one" thing had to apply to my husband and me together, it would likely be one of his paintings, though he'd suffer because he has many many nostalgic items. He's more into material things than me.

On second thought, maybe I'd have to resort to taking my stinking meds.

What is a comfort that you'd struggle to live without?

We're getting our kitchen and bathroom remodeled, so were without water downstairs for a few days. The really simple things are the ones I tend to take for granted.

I'm old enough to remember the days without computers/cell phones & such. how long do you think you could go without one? Or, do you think you could give up using one at all?

Not so much cell phones/computers, but the connectivity aspect of them. You have to have them anymore to function in society. During my job search, three out of twenty-four employers allowed me to do a paper application. Everyone else instructed me to go online. Any face to face visit was met with some variation of "We'll email you.", "Did you apply online?", or, in some cases, "Our application process is virtual, including interviews."

It is what it is, but it certainly allows for some depersonalization to an extent. If you never see an applicant's face, you have less of a problem dropping them like a hot potato.

I'd be happy to keep more of the "personal touch" in some interactions, but time marches on, I guess.

Do you have a meaningful quote (book, poem, movie) that you remember years later?

The desiderata, I’ve quoted a part of it in my signature now. …, say your truth quietly and clearly, avoid loud aggressive people,…. I try to live my life this way. I first came across this in a reader’s digest way back in the 60’s while on vacation. It’s stuck with me ever since.

Is there a happy memory from your childhood that sticks out for you?

As much as I've complained about my dad, this memory actually involves him. Mackinac Island. The family was on a RV road trip and we stopped close by. My mom was feeling under the weather, so he took me to the nearby island. Think Colonial Williamsburg. We took the fast roostertail ferry there and back, explored, got some tourist kitsch enjoyed ourselves and came back. It's one of the only truly happy memories from my childhood. One that's not tinged with any other emotion.

Do you have a non-Christmas holiday tradition?

Thanks for the memories of Mackinac Island, @Aurelius710. I've been there several times.

On the 4th of July, my partner's brother always buys several hundred dollars worth of the REALLY good fireworks (they're legal here) & has a picnic. After dark, when everyone's good & liquored up (well, not me), they shoot them off. It takes about an hour to exhaust the supply. After 20 years of this celebration everyone is still intact & alive!

What is your favorite ethnic food? Describe the ingredients.
