Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
I received an email today from the practice where I see both my pdoc and therapist. The email said, "This is informing you that your therapist can no longer see you. Please contact your provider if you need referrals." I only saw her for a couple of months, but I really thought I was starting to get somewhere with her. I am really in need of therapy, so this is really disruptive and makes me feel abandoned. Plus, I have issues with trust. I've been going through some really bad anxiety problems and rapid cycling. It makes me really angry that the practice did not even bother to contact me on the phone to let me know what's going on. I do know that there practice has a long wait list and that there's no way they'll be able to take me back if I call. At least my pdoc is still continuing to see me. If I suddenly was unable to see her, then I'd really be upset since she has been my pdoc for years now. Today was a good day for me compared to most days lately, and now I'm really upset and feel lost. Not sure if anyone here has experienced something similar with a therapist or pdoc before? __________________ Bipolar 1 Disorder, Unspecified Anxiety Disorder |

Hi xRavenx. I'm sorry to read that you've lost a therapist that you felt was working out. However, I'm guessing that in your case you were not "dumped". It sounds more likely that the therapist is the one with the issues. Perhaps she quit her job for personal reasons? Or couldn't hack so many clients? Either way, I agree that it was crappy how they contacted you about it.
I actually was truly "dumped" by a therapist in the past. What was worse was that I was "dumped" by the psychiatrist, as well, simultaneously. In my case, it was because of manic behavior. I had just been hospitalized and was then supposed to be in a PHP/IOP but declared that I would prematurely leave the IOP. They wouldn't allow it. Long story shortened, I was dumped because of very aggressive (ugly) behavior (full blown mania's not pretty) and to force me to stay in treatment. In the end, I was rehospitalized a day later, then had to go back to IOP. The IOP helped me find both a new tdoc and pdoc. It was for the best, in my case. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

I'm guessing that, like Soupe said, the therapist is having something go on that has nothing to do with you. She may be leaving the clinic.

Thank you. I ended up calling the practice, and they said she left. It happened really fast. I looked her up, and it appears that she went into her own private practice, but she does not take my insurance. It's still very unexpected that there was no final session/termination appointment though.

The same situation happened with my pdoc of 3+ years. She had a major disagreement with clinic administration and left the clinic entirely with no notice. My therapist (same clinic) told me what had happened. While I can understand having a problem with admin, my pdoc leaving so suddenly and without any closure has really screwed up my life...my meds and how she suggested I take them, it's all disorganized.
