Does anyone here know of something similar to seroquel, which has helped me sleep at a low dose, but I believe gave me type 2 diabetes a long time ago,
I asked for it back because I couldn't get enough sleep, I live with noisy roomates. Now I'm stuck if I want to sleep I have to take it or wean off of it slowly. I'm still weeping one minute and laughing the next, which actually got worse after starting the seroquel again. I find I might as well have someone knock me out with a frying pan it's the same kind of no dream no good quality sleep. Thanks in advance for any replies. |

If all you need is sleep, I imagine there are various meds your doc could consider, beyond antipsychotics. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

Have you tried melatonin yet? It’s not for everyone but it’s the natural sleep hormone.

I find melatonin helps me. but i also take two antipyschotics: haldol and risperdal. they both help with psychosis and sleep.

Seroquel is well known for causing type 2 diabetes. If I were you I'd try melatonin or ZzzQuil for help with sleeping. Taking an AP for sleep is not the best (healthiest) idea.

Thanks everyone. No I don't use it for psychosis but for sleep. Melatonin does nothing for me but thank you for the suggestion. I already take an antidepressant that helps with sleep, I just don't want my blood sugar this high again after going back on seroquel. I might ask for Geodon but I'd rather less meds than more. Maybe some zzquil too, not a bad idea for when I just need the extra help to get to sleep. And lithium years ago made me retain water and gain weight. Thank you all again for the replies everyone!

I also think that taking an AP for sleep is not the healthiest idea.

Have you tried gabapetin? I take a big dose at "med time" (8:30) and then a small dose at 11:00 and most nights I fall asleep by 12 AM. Huge difference than before. I do take an AP but the gabapentin seems to be what helps the most.
