I have been under pretty extreme stress for nearly 2 months now and my hair is rapidly greying. I had some grey hair before this but the other day I thought I had something in my eyebrow. On further investigation both are grey. My hair is also much more grey than it used to be. (I have to look at this when it is wet and my glasses are on, a combination that doesn't happen a lot, to be sure how much).

I've read research that it not only is possible it can be reversible when the stress is removed.

Anyone with any experience with this? I don't care if my hair turns grey, I'm just surprised by how fast it is happening.

I totally agree about the link between stress and graying hair. I'm not sure about it being reversed when stress eases, though. I assume my past stress played some part in kicking off my gradual graying. In my case, I didn't see a rapid change, though. I'm 50 and have been having my hair colored for at least 10 years now. Before that I'd just pluck out stray ones. My mom went gray in her 20s. I'm sure there was a genetic element in her case.

Im sorry youre experiencing such high levels of stress @BeyondtheRainbow

I know genetics has had a heavy impact on me, I started going grey when I was 18
My mum and my aunt were the same.

I’m more grey than my 94 year old mother. I’ve had a much more stressful life that she ever had.

My hair started to go grey in my late twenties due to stress. By my early thirties i was all grey. The fun thing is that grey hair takes primary colors like blue and green really well. When i'm manic i use a temporary dye and have a great time. Also, with grey hair you get the seniors discount!

I've had a major anxiety disorder since I was a child. My hair began greying when I was (happily) pregnant with my second child, my son. I was 25. It became more and more grey over the years until it has become purely white. It's still as thick as ever, though. Now I put a toner on it that makes it a creamy blonde-white. The goal being to keep it from yellowing.

In my case, it could be stress, but it could also be genetics. My father was grey by his mid-20's. My son is now 33 and is quickly greying.

I miss my darker hair, but nothing I can do, so I keep it toned.
