I just got a call from my doctors nurse as I was pulling into my driveway. She said my thyroid ultrasound was abnormal and I need to see an ENT doctor for a consultation. I looked at my online portal and I have 4 nodules. 2 are moderatly suspisious and will need biopsies. I don't know how they do biopspies. Is that surgery? I'm trying not to panic but of course I am. I just took a valium but I am so freaked out I can barely type. I just came back from therapy and she was being pretty dismissive and telling me it wasn't a big deal.

Can I just have some prayers and hugs? I'm really freaked out right now.

Take a few deep breaths. You're in my thoughts

Okay, from what I know a thyroid biopsy is done with a very thin needle through your skin, and you are completely awake. Are you scheduled yet?

Of course you have my prayers, loving vibes, and big hugs (((((Md)))))

And remember the Box Breathing you taught me about

And remember that "moderately suspicious" means they just want to be extra-cautious, not that anything is horribly wrong.

No I am not scheduled yet. Do they numb the area so you don't feel the needle? I wonder if what I am feeling when I swallow is all 4 or just one and the other 3 are somewhere else or something. I am not sure how big someones thyroid is and when she was doing the ultrasound of my neck she did my entire neck. I don't know. Hopefully I get answers soon.

Its just scary to hear someone say "your ultrasound was abnormal" mainly I'm trying not to get myself worked up and not to let my sister know until after the biopsy. I hope she doesn't get upset at us for not telling her but she doesn't need this extra stress with the baby on the way. My mom was telling my aunt with all the stuff she did for my grandmas and my great aunt and my dad when they were sick this is new terriorty for her. I told her not to worry so much about me. I don't want to be a burden on people and I honestly don't like it when my family worries about me. I think I read somewhere thats one of the reasons why people with medical issues get into these depressions. They feel like they are being a burden on their family.

I have a telehealth a week from Saturday. The first appointment is just a consultation and he will tell me what my options are. I'm not sure what possible options there are. I just have to try not to worry until then. Again its mainly the nodule that makes swallowing difficult that keeps freaking me out. According to the report I just looked at the others are all on the side. The report says "moderately suspiscous after each one and then after it says "biopsy reccomended" I know my left side is bothering me too, but its not a big deal. I have tylenol for that.

At the moment I think I could just be dealing with allergies.

I understand this is scary for you. I wanted to share with you that my mother had thyroid cancer. It is highly treatable. Back in the 60s when she had it done, they just took out her thyroid and gave her medicine for the rest of her life. They may have advanced since then . I wouldn’t worry too much if you could try not to. Regarding the procedure, I’m sure they’re not cutting into you without giving you some kind of anesthesia local, etc .

Did she gain a lot of weight after she had it taken out?

Exactly what Bipolarchic said. And no, you wouldn't gain weight because you'd be on the thyroid hormone replacement med. (Wish the doctor would give that to me!)

Also- honestly, if they thought it was urgent they'd get you in right away. I've learned that.

Hi Mountaindewed,

My wife is going through that very same thing. She has what is called Graves Disease. Some of the issues include nodules on the thyroid, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid eye disease. It can be managed quite well with a healthy diet. Other options include medication and the removal of the thyroid gland. My wife was able to shrink her 5 nodules. She goes in every 6 months for an ultrasound. She has been doing great for several years. I’m sure you will do great. My prayers are with you.
