Hi. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct thread. Please excuse me if it is. This is my first post here.
Some background about me to preface what I'm going to say: I was diagnosed with type 2 a long time ago. I also have c-ptsd. I have been in therapy for twenty years or so for the c-ptsd. Last week, I had a hypomanic episode due to many factors. In July of 2021, I'm pretty sure I had a manic episode or at least frequent periods of hypomania. I don't really know which for sure, to be honest. I have a handle on my depressive episodes for the most part (I won't get into that at this time). I was wondering if anyone has plans/strategies to cope with hypomania/mania. My mood was all over the place. I had an anger outburst, and mixed feelings of being overly excited/panicked to really, really low ruminating thoughts. I couldn't get out of bed for a couple of days. I wasn't really able to eat much or work. I know that during these times I need to rest and tune out the world around me to reduce stress. I'm concerned about the extreme highs though. Please leave me any suggestions and experiences you have had. I am aware that everyone is different and some things won't be useful. I am open to anything. Thank you. |

@littlesupernova:
Hi and welcome to the bipolar forum! Glad to have you here! You are correct to have started your own thread, indeed. You are also correct that bipolar exists on a spectrum and that everyone's flavor is different. For example, i get months-long episodes of (hypo)mania with sustained feelings of euphoria. The way you describe your episode is very different. Have you ever looked into borderline personality disorder? The quick switching of moods within a short time seems more typical of that. Of course, i am not a doctor and you should consult a professional before making any changes in protocol. I'm just a peer offering my experience. Once again, welcome to the forum! |
