I could definitely diagnose and prescribe better than certain providers I've had, but I couldn't deal with insurance companies, codes, paperwork and all the red tape.

I have a pretty good sense and knowledge, but obviously not professional level. Let's say I've been around the block more than a few times. Many past hospitalizations, IOPs, DBSA meetings, a handful of psychology classes including Abnormal Psych, read lots of books including the DSM-5. But still...Also met people in AA and knew/know plenty of people with various dxs.
I will say that I've met a few therapists in the past that didn't seem that knowledgeable. And many that were. Some pdocs that barely gave patients the "time of day" and ones who clearly knew their stuff...and even cared. I would never choose to become a psychologist or psychiatrist, despite my interest in the studies. My study has simply been out of curiosity and to better understand my own situation and a little about others', but it's complicated, for sure. I couldn't hack being a tdoc or pdoc, for many reasons. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg * Seroquel IR (quetiapine IR) 50 mg * Lyrica (pregabalin) 100 mg Last edited by Soupe du jour; Jan 22, 2023 at 03:17 PM.. |

I love my new psychiatrist he has all sorts of med tricks up his sleeve. I know something needs tweaking with my current medication but I don’t know what. I can describe my symptoms / high anxiety but I don’t have the cure. In years gone by my old psychiatrist would have put me on Valium 3x a day but they don’t seem to do that anymore in Australia.

Confident. I could sit down with a complete stranger for 45 minutes, listen to (and watch) the person, and come up with a decent diagnosis.
Online, it would take me much longer, but after a month or so of "knowing" someone (and interacting with that person every or almost every day) I can get a general idea of what "category" the person fits into. What I find extremely interesting online, though, is how geographical location determines so much of an individual's personality. __________________ |
