I know this post is random, but I'm scared. I have a pdoc appointment on the 15th and was thinking about asking my pdoc to wean me off diazepam. I had a VERY rough time when a different pdoc took me off clonazepam, and an even worse rime last year when I had to go inpatient for psychosis and was taken off my diazepam cold turkey.
I'm very sensitive to med changes. Anything can put me over the edge into SUI and overdoses. Has anyone had experience going inpatient for getting off a benzo? I think I'd have to go inpatient for this for my own safety. I want to get off diazepam because I don't want to be on a controlled substance. I'm just scared of benzo withdrawal!! __________________ The darkest of nights is followed by the brightest of days. |

Benzo withdrawal is real but if done slowly can be manageable.
I don’t remember much about coming off it a few years ago when I was addicted other than maybe light headed and nausea. I think I might have been hypo at the time. It’s good you’re considering your options and if ip is where you need to be definitely bring it up with your pdoc! |

I also found a slow withdrawal was fine. I cut down from 20mg Diazepam at 1mg a week. I only got down to 5mg tho. I found if i went lower i got real irritable and anxious. Still, a 75% reduction is significant. I also don't like being on a controlled substance but it's the best i could do. Wishing you good luck!

I'm currently working on a Klonopin withdrawal, after having been on it for several decades. I started withdrawing from 2mg./day in October. This is the first week without my a.m. dose and it's going well. I will be leaving my p.m. dose of 1mg. alone for a while. In about a month I'll reduce the 1mg. to .75mg. And so on. But when I reach .5mg daily (p.m.) I will leave it there for a long time, probably 6 months. Then I'll start shaving off a tiny bit. I'll do that until I'm at about 2.5mg. From there, I'll see how it's going.
I have high hopes of being able to completely get off K-pin, but I have a long way to go. So I'm looking at about a year (at least) until I even reach the possibility of being benzo-free. I would very much like to do the Ashton Method, but good luck finding a prescriber who will agree to it. With benzos it's that last bit that is the rough part. How long have you been on Valium? __________________ |

When I was taken off clonazepam the withdrawal lasted about four months total (until my ****** pdoc at the time put me on gabapentin). I noticed the withdrawal lasted in two waves. I wish you good luck in getting benzo free. I know from experience how hard and horrible it is! Oh my god! I get my meds bubble packed so sometimes I forget what doses I'm on. I actually take 10mg of diazepam three times a day, scheduled. Holy ****! I'm doomed!

It's just going to take tremendous patience. You can do it, rt.

btw, IP or not, no one should be taken off a benzo quickly.

You can do this!!! You CAN'T go slow enough at this. You have to have the mindset that this is a long term goal. I speak from experience. I have a doc that was willing to do the Ashton method and it worked. I found it is also helpful to do moderate exercise of something you like. It really helps with any withdrawal symptoms you may feel. I had times when I tried to lower my dose and went back to the previous dose for a few more days.
