I'm searching for a way slow/stop rapid cycling. And is that the same as a mixed state? And does anyone else get depression and hypomania at the same time. Not on minute to the next but literally combined?
I'm just looking for someone who understands and maybe has some pointers. |

Rapid cycling is 3 (4?) episodes per year. Mixed episodes are depression and (hypo) at the same time and they are hell. I used to get them all the time before this med cocktail. It's been a while since I've had one after that. Feel free to ask more if I didn't answer your questions fully. And welcome to MSF! __________________ Bipolar 1, PTSD, GAD, OCD. Rapid cycling can be pure episodes (all depression or all hypomania or mixed episode) but the "rapid cycling" means you have several switches within a year (or month or week or in some cases faster). I have found that the choice of medication(s) you are prescribed can be helpful for both of the above. More "classic" presentations of bipolar disorder can require other types. __________________ Dx: Bipolar type 1 Psych Medications: * Tegretol XR (carbamazepine ER) 800 mg * Lamictal (lamotrigine) 150 mg * Seroquel XR (quetiapine ER) 600 mg I also take meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, and tachycardia. |

I've had this as well-it's awful! My brain goes at mania speed but the depression keeps me in bed...

I've been mixed/primarily manic before and it was awful. It ended with an overdose while alone with my daughter (who was four at the time). Absolutely awful. Ruined my life at the time. Things are better now though I haven't had an episode like that in seven (six?) years now.i wasn't on a AP at the time.
