I'm a walking pharmacy.
How do you know what meds you need and what ones you don't? Trial and error? My pdoc isn't very helpful. The only med he wanted to wean me off of was gabapentin and I don't want to go off my gabbies. That's a bad idea. He thinks gabapentin is why I'm so fat. I don't think gabapentin is why I'm fat. I've been on it for over ten years. I took myself off my pointless meds already. The only meds I'm on right now that I think could be pointless are Lamictal and loxapine, but I just don't know. And maybe Cymbalta, but last time I tried weaning off that I ended up overdosing. __________________ The darkest of nights is followed by the brightest of days. |

When I moved I was on 4+ meds. I ran out of meds and they talked to me instead of just putting me back on those. I'm now on two meds, still depressed but I've been taking them. So things are better. Do you get pill packs? My daughter is on 7 meds and I put them in a pill container 1x a month. She has yoo-hoo that she can only take with meds. She's been doing well taking them if I fill the meds. How many times a day do you need to take meds?

It's not a matter of forgetting when to take them, it's just that I'm on so many! I don't want to be on eight prescription meds! I just am scared to try going off anything major. I feel like my mental state is so fragile as is. Maybe I just need to deal with it? I don't know. Sigh. __________________ The darkest of nights is followed by the brightest of days. |

I would talk to your dr to try and get it down to 2x a day.

When I was last inpatient at Stanford hospital, which was in early 2018, I was told by one of the doctors (I do not remember if he was a resident) that Gabapentin improves sleep architecture. I have just now run a search to see if I could find an article about it and sure enough:
"Conclusions: Gabapentin enhances slow-wave sleep in patients with primary insomnia. It also improves sleep quality by elevating sleep efficiency and decreasing spontaneous arousal." So maybe I should increase my Gabapentin dosage since I have bad sleep efficiency with a lot of arousals... but at any rate, keep Gabapentin @raspberrytorte it is good stuff. It is probably the most benign of all your meds. I am surprised the pdoc wants you off of it. the primary reason I take it is to ameliorate EPS from APs. __________________ Bipolar I w/psychotic features Last inpatient stay in 2018 Geodon 40 mg Seroquel 75 mg Lybalvi 5 mg as a PRN Gabapentin 1200 mg, Vitamin B-complex (against extrapyramidal side effects) Long term side effects from medications some of them discontinued: - hypothyroidism - obesity Suspected narcolepsy Treated with Ritalin 5mg Last edited by Tart Cherry Jam; Dec 26, 2023 at 01:02 AM.. |
