But MDD is far more widespread than Bipolar. What is going on here? Are we just given to banter so much more?!?!

"Major depressive disorder is a highly prevalent psychiatric disorder. It has a lifetime prevalence of about 5 to 17 percent, with the average being 12 percent"

"An estimated 4.4% of U.S. adults experience bipolar disorder at some time in their lives."

Bipolar is challenging and complex. Personally, I don't think a lot of docs know how to treat it. They have to realize how risky it is to give us anti-depressants. It can kick us up too high. Even with hypomania, the lesser kind of mania, being too high can cause serious problems: you can loose the finesse needed to handle people, blurt things out, spend too much, have unrealistic thoughts, etc. If you have only depression, they give you anti-depressants and suggest lifestyle changes. I don't mean to minimize the difficulty of having depression. It runs in my family and can be hard to treat as well. Family members had hospitalizations and electroshock for it, so don't think I disrespect the challenges of depression. Lots of people are having a tough time now with inflation. Im surprised there aren't more posts from those who are depressed.
Yes, some of us are posting in a hypomanic or manic state. Kudos to us for trying to communicate! Yes some with depression may be too depressed to post. Hugs to all!

I think a lot of people have a bipolar diagnosis or can relate to the symptoms. I found this forum over 10 years ago, and even though it much busier then, the bipolar section was always very busy. I will admit I always check the bipolar section first before I go to any other part of the forum.
