I was wondering what you take for sleep?

My seroquel is no longer sufficient. Trazodone does not help. My pdoc told me that topamax should make me sleepy, but it doesn't. Benadryl does nothing. Mucinex knocks me out cold for like two hours, but that is all, and I am no longer sick and in need of fudging mucus medication! NyQuil doesn't make me sleepy (and, again, not sick). Zzzquil does nothing. I was on hydroxyzine for a little bit for my anxiety, but it didn't make me tired or help my anxiety, so I went off it.

What the fudge do you take?!

What is stronger than seroquel!

I can't take this anymore. I'm losing my damn mind!!!!!!

I was on remeron for awhile, which worked, but it made me SO hungry I couldn't stand it so I went off it. I'm talking eating ten bananas 🍌 in a row hungry! So remeron is not an option.

I have no problems falling asleep. It's just STAYING asleep that is my issue. And then I can't fall back asleep.

10 mg ambian
50 mg Benadryl
10 mg melatonin
600 mg gabapentin

The ambian helps me fall asleep and the gabapentin helps me stay asleep and I’m not sure about the otc meds but my doctors know about them and encourage me to keep taking them as even with this cocktail my sleep is iffy.

At this current moment nothing because I simply don’t need sleep meds. But it’s usually seroquel or melatonin if I do….

Just melatonin. I use different sleep podcasts on Spotifty. The one I've been using lately is called Nothing Much Happens. Its been knocking me out pretty good these last couple of nights. Also, Bore Me To Sleep is a good one for getting back to sleep.

Thank you people for your suggestions. I actually forgot that I had some melatonin up in the cupboard. Took a couple of those and 100mg of seroquel and managed to fall asleep for an extra hour (better than nothing).

I should have mentioned that I take 800mg of gabapentin before bed. Actually, fudge, this is what I take before bed:

Gabapentin 800mg
Lamictal 100mg
Loxapine 25mg
Propranolol 20mg
Seroquel 200mg
Topamax 100mg

I've been on ambien in the past, but it didn't help me sleep, just made me hallucinate. I may not have been on high enough of a dose though.

I'm not sure I want to go on Zyprexa. I mean... I'm already plenty pleasantly plump enough. And last time I was on it I seriously gained fifteen pounds in two weeks.

I'd rather go back on fatron (aka remeron) and eat ten bananas 🍌 😋 in one sitting. Lol

You know I am not a master of sleep so I won't list all my meds since they only kinda work but something you might want to try is dividing the dose. I started this last year when I was really depressed and couldn't get to sleep or stay asleep. I take most of my meds at 8:30 and then at 11 I take another 500 of gabapentin and an additional klonopin (and right now Seroquel). That dividing thing does help. I wouldn't try without my pdoc's approval but it shouldn't bother them.

dTonight I'm having trouble getting to sleep at all. I may need to exercise earlier in the day. It's just a mess and I know you understand that.more than most people.

Oh this is bad news that Seroquel stopped working... stronger than even Seroquel for sleep? For me, only Zyprexa, but it comes with so many bad side effects metabolically as you have learned for yourself.

Regarding Benadryl and hydroxyzine: my pdoc told me that anticholinergics could increase the risk of dementia. I then read up on it online and saw material to that effect. If they help you, I can see favoring them despite those troublesome long-term side effects (don't we all put up with side effects to plainly survive??!), but since they do not help you, it is probably just as well that you are not on them long-term.

PS Maybe you will have better luck with Lybalvi than with regular Zyprexa? Maybe try it for a little bit and if you start gaining weight, stop immediately? I know @HALLIEBETH87 likes her Lybalvi.

Be prepared to fight with the insurance for approval because Lybalvi is new and expensive. The pdoc needs to explain to the insurance that you have had unbearable metabolic side effects to Zyprexa and that nothing but Zyprexa helps you sleep.

Oh dear. That sounds like a pain in the ***. Maybe I'll just deal with seroquel for now. It's not like I dislike seroquel. I ❤️ seroquel. It just doesn't work sometimes.

Maybe I'll ask my pdoc for remeron. JUST prn though. NOT scheduled like I was on before. Jeez Louise! That was terrible. My husband was always like, "What happened to all our bananas?" Lol

My pdoc was able to convince my insurance and I received a three month supply of Lybalvi to use a PRN during the times when Seroquel does not work (not more frequently than once a week).

I think it is worth initiating the process.

Oh okay. Maybe I'll at least try then. Can't hurt. Thanks!

The extra seroquel is definitely helping. Got five and a half hours of sleep last night. Yay! I'm so relieved. I guess I just wasn't taking enough seroquel before bed. Hopefully last night wasn't an anomaly too and this keeps up. I don't think I need fatron or lybalvi.

I hope, too, that last night was not an anomaly.

Ambien! The best for me but docs are hesitant to prescribe.

@bizi have you had a sleep study? such load snoring plus your extra weight would make one suspect sleep apnea which needs to be treated
