This thread is about my son. I was posting on the schizophrenia board but I was told to post here bc there's barely any ppl on there and I have BP 1.
My son is 28 and developed schizophrenia at age 19. It was a lot of psychotic breaks and hospitalizations. Very hard to see him go through that.
Possible trigger:
So I guess I'm looking for support in dealing with him. It's very difficult and sad. |

I have schizo affective basically both schizophrenia and bipolar 1. My child also has many mental health issues and is treatment resistant. She's on 6 different psych meds. My child has not been violent to me. She takes it out on herself. I was noncompliant when medicine is not working for me. Have they ever tried injections? They're every 1-6 months.

If he doesn't have a bad reaction to abilify that may be an option.

I have schizoaffective BP type like Victoria'smom. For seven years they had me on the haldol injection and it worked like a charm. No delusions or episodes really (besides maybe a bit of depression here and there) or paranoia. Is that an option for your son?

My son is moving to the new facility on Monday. I really hope it works out for him. I fell just heartbroken that this is his life. At the place he's at they go on outings like going to the lake, bowling, going to a place that makes really good strawberry milkshakes and he won't go.
It's so hard bc we kind of trigger each other. Me with my anxiety and him with his paranoia. It's just so incredibly sad. |

I hope it works out for you. I'm so sorry about your son having all these problems. It sounds like they do a good job at the new facility and it's wonderful that they take the residents on outings.

Sending my love to you and your family. Has he ever tried Zyprexa or Clozapine? When I was in the worst of my psychosis, Zyprexa took me out of it pretty quickly. I ended up on clozapine because I had a pdoc that was in love with it, and it was effective too (it's considered the best med for schizophrenia, but it's only prescribed when nothing else works because there is a very small risk of agranulocytosis. I'd say it's pretty safe though because they do regular blood work to check your WBC and ANC especially at first)
