My Pdoc ordered this for me! Genesight.com
My psych nurse practitioner ordered a genetic test for me. It supposed to list all the psych meds you can and can't take based on your genes. It arrives in two days and takes them two days to analyze. Who knew they had such a thing?? It's $300 but free to those with Medicaid like me. I'm still taking the Vraylar and the mouth movements have decreased thank goodness. The test results should be back before my next appointment on the 18th with my psych nurse practitioner. It will list all the don't takes and all the takes in the results. I think it's very cool if it works! __________________ Ingrezza 80 mg Propranolol 40 mg Benztropine 1 mg Vraylar 1.5 mg, Gabapentin 300 Mania Sept/Oct 2024 Mania (July/August 2024) Mania (December 2023) Mixed episode/Hypomania (September 2023) Depression, Anxiety and Intrusive thoughts (September 2021) Depression & Psychosis (July/August 2021) Mania (April/May 2019) Last edited by Moose72; Sep 11, 2024 at 12:07 PM.. |

Antidepressant seem to work on various system or combinations of systems: one in the norepinephrine system, one in the serotonin system, one in the dopamine system. Some antidepressant target two of the systems. Some target three systems. Some antidepressants work for reasons that are not clear.
So it is nice these tests exist. They might help to tailor treatment to what a patient really needs so there is not a need to go through the trial and error ordeal. I am woefully ignorant about a lot of this, sadly. I sure hope this test proves helpful to you. I would take this test but my antidepressant has worked for me for plus or minus 50 years. |

Abilfy made me manic. we did the test and it stated the abilify was not for me.
So she took me off of it. so she was more or less convinced because of the test. heavy sigh...... bizi __________________ lamictal 2x a day haldol 2x a day cogentin 2x a day klonipin , 1mg at night, fish oil coq10 multi vit,, vit c, at noon, tumeric, caffeine Remeron at night, zyprexa, requip2-4mg |

Fed ex tried delivering my dna kit today but there was no apartment number on the package! Ugh so they're coming back Monday. I hope it's not when I'm in therapy!

The lab has my dna swabs now and I hope they are running their tests for lots of medications! I can’t wait to see which meds are in each zone- green, yellow and Red. Then there are numbers next to the med names that gets even more specific.

The Genesight testing provides a lot of solid information on genetic variations in regards to what genes metabolize certain meds (I hope I'm wording that right). I get the idea of "this med working by metabolizing through this method" and that method may or may not be ideal for the med being metabolized in a certain person, but I'm wondering what decerns "well" from "intermediate" to "poor." Everything in "well" is objectively better than "intermediate," but what makes the difference/where is the line between well and intermediate? Maybe it's some number of ways you metabolize matching with whatever drug and the cut off was arbitrarily chosen.
I don't really know much about genetics or how the genesight works other than comparing how a drug works to comparing how you metabolize substances, but I can't wait to see you post about what you get for results __________________ [Insert thought-provoking and comedic quote here] |
