This is slightly unfortunate. 😕

And slightly TMI and embarrassing, but... I honestly don't know what to do.

Sertraline works great for my depression I feel. Much better than cymbalta did, and upon reflection when I was on Cymbalta I had ZERO sex drive. Now I have sex drive, have no trouble getting... um...
Possible trigger:
, but I can't have an
Possible trigger:
.

Honestly, I'm really sexually frustrated here. 😡

If you were me would you tell scary new psychiatrist about this unfortunate side effect and go off it and risk becoming depressed again?

Or would you just deal with it?

I'm honestly at a loss.

And hot and bothered. 😡

Have you tried like any other things to make things happen? Idk. I use some stuff when I can't get off and I'm desperate. Like a pocket rocket or lube or something.

No. Just fingers and d@ck. Definitely don't need lube. Maybe it's time to make a journey to the adult fun store.

I don’t know. I guess so because he hasn’t mentioned it and that was several years ago.

Maybe pdoc would say that side effects should wear off over time.

When I was advised to go on Effexor, I was told nausea was a side effect, but it should go away in two weeks.

Maybe talk to your pdoc about Bupropion (Wellbutrin). It does not have that side effect. It is also weight neutral.
It can however be mildly activating, and is not always recommended for people prone to anxiety.
When my pdoc wanted to put me on an antidepressant, it was the only one I would agree to because I didn't want to deal with any potential sexual side effects.

Have you been on other SSRIs? This is very much out of my expertise level and SSRIs are hell for me anyway (although somehow I've been on a bunch of them) but it seems like there is one or more better than sertaline for sexual side effects. I want to say paraxotine? If sertaline works well for you then maybe another AD in the same class would be helpful with different side effects.

Unfortunately I can't go on Wellbutrin. I have a really bad anxiety disorder and when I was on it in the past it rose my anxiety to intolerable levels. I was willing to try it again, to try and lose some weight, but my old psychiatrist refused to put me on it because my anxiety is so bad.

It sucks.

I definitely lost weight when I was on it, because I was too anxious and keyed up to eat anything!

No. The only other ADs I've been on are Wellbutrin, cymbalta, and effexor.

I talked to my therapist about it, and she advised me to talk with scary new psychiatrist lady about it at my next appointment on October 7th. I'll just see what she suggests we do because I'm seriously at a loss. This would be a tolerable side effect... if I wasn't in a relationship! It just sucks because it's seriously the ONLY side effect. Otherwise the med is working perfectly!

I as sorry for this side effect for you.during your mania stage your body was hyper sexual so this must be so hard for you!

I think I may have been in some sort of culture shock because I was used to my old psychiatrist, who was super friendly, listened to me, had great bedside manner, and wasn't scary or intimidating in the slightest, and this new lady is the exact opposite of him! Cold, clinical, no bedside manner whatsoever.... I think I just have to get used to her and she has to get to know me.

I'm going to ask her if I can try viibryd, or just see what she recommends we do.

I'm pretty sure if it was my old psychiatrist he'd be open to the suggestion. I don't know if this new lady will be open to my suggestions or not though. Guess I'll just have to find out!

Yeah. My mania gave me a brand new sexual awakening, which is really fun 😁, so this side effect is starting to become bothersome. I'd wean my own booty off sertraline before my appointment but I'm worried I'll get depressed. Plus, I don't want to incur any potential wrath of my new psychiatrist. I think I'm going to call tomorrow morning and leave a message on the nurses line.

I have a bp male friend who has anhedonic orgasms on Effexor. He can ejaculate but no joy. I know this is not directly relevant to your troubles, but I just wanted to mention of often psych meds screw up sexual functioning.
