Yes as disabled I get medical. My family doesn't in most states. They are classified by the state not federally. We would loose their assistance moving.
Yes, I qualify it's for people on disability. So I would pay about $200 a month. __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |

Yes it is better here. I see pdoc every 2 weeks vs 3 months. I have a therapist now. I've never lived in an assessable unit. I don't have people trying to break into my house. I have a bus system. There's no cockroachs. Where we have always lived has been miserable. But we have a home. We have food. We have medical. Things that ALL the other states failed.

I understand I don't have high standards but this is what poverty in America looks like. I can either move and try yet again or rely on myself.

I don't see why it is impossible to cook things like rice, boiled eggs, pasta if your husband is home. It sounds like he doesn't work? And I assume he doesn't have the physical disabilities you do? Why can't he use a knife to cut, boil & cook rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.?

That's the thing, if I'm hungry and he's sleeping I have to wake him up. If he's really sick I'm ****ed. He was in bed for a week, we lived off cereal bars and almost got evicted because I couldn't take care of the place. My mom had to fly in. Then there was the time he was in the hospital for a week. Victoria help me through that but she's moving. Then there was the time my nephew needed help for two months. I did sponge baths then. Without Victoria I wouldn't be able to do it and even then it wasn't good.
I need a place I can: Do laundry (in unit w/d) Shower (walk in shower) Do dishes ( double sink) Cook basic meals ( straight line open kitchen) Limited stairs First floor Garbage on same floor It's not a lot I'm asking for. I just need a place I can modify. __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |

I'm also scared if something happens to him what happens to me. He has heart failure. His dad had his first heart attack at 45. Is only in his 60 an in and out of the hospital. I need to succeed and move so I don't get institutionalized.

So we're taking the week, talking to our therapists and then going after a home loan that's special for disabled people. We would move a couple hours away but stay in the same state so we keep our Drs and services. I'd go after a PCA immediately in the new county. We'd continue classes at our pace. The only bad thing is we would be paying $300 more a month than right now. But we would pass our section 8 to Victoria. So basically we'd be paying for 2 places with that $300. We'd remodel the bathroom before moving in.

There's a $10k grant and then a $40k loan if you need more. I'm going to look up how much it costs now.

My mom got hers done a couple of years ago. It cost $3k total. So I'm estimating $12k. Which would add $10/month to our loan. so our total monthly would be about $550 for an accessible house, including taxes, condo fees and things like that. We would apply for liheap, CPA, get more in EBT, and utility/mortgage assistance of $666 a month. I would also change from instacart to Walmart+meals which would save $80 a month and $50 a year . So while it would technically be more for the condo we may come out positive. Especially since I wouldn't be ordering when I'm really hungry or at least not as much.

Can your husband just buy groceries or is he immobile? When I struggled financially, I never ordered any food. Just shopped in a grocery store

Because of his mental health issues he cannot use the store. Plus we have transportation issues. It's just easier to order groceries.

Why can’t you use the kitchen? What’s wrong with it? You said you are ok with a microwave. If your husband can’t cook either, then waking him up might not serve the purpose. Would you be able to use the kitchen in a new place?

It's too closed in. The new place any new place we get will have a straight line kitchen. My husband cooks. We ordered groceries from the store on EBT but there's fees and tip. Walmart doesn't have fees but there's no Walmart here. So we spend $80 on fees a month. But when we have cash and I don't want to wake him up I'll order a $6 meal to be delivered.

How does he cook if he cannot use the stove? Slow cooker? Oven? Is he sleeping during the day or you are eating during the night? Why is he sleeping?
Can he cook a batch of food in like a slow cooker and you’ll all have food to eat? It seems that between three adults you could figure some type of food routine? Maybe cook bigger batches of food so you eat better and cheaper? Make small containers to warm up in the microwave? If you are afraid of the kitchen, put a microwave in the hallway? Rooms? Is it claustrophobia issue with inability to be in a kitchen or something else? I’ve met people with all kind of issues but this one seems very unusual. That’s when vocational rehab could help to teach the whole family how to manage food and kitchen |

I'm sorry. He does cook. It's me who has difficulty. But if he's sleeping or away I can't do it if I'm hungry. So I either have to wake him or order something small. I don't sleep well and his meds make him sleep 12+ hrs.

Its not fear it's a mobility issue. I can't keep my balance the way the stove is. I need a straight line kitchen to catch myself with the counter.. we only get less than $300 / month in EBT.
