My CBT-I pdoc (a sleep psychologist) explained that for Melatonin to work, one needs a very low dose and to take it not at bedtime, but about 5 hours before you plan to go bed.

I used Melatonin in the past but it did not work, so I stopped. That was some time ago. It turns out, I did it wrong in two ways: took megadoses and at bedtime.

For a week, I have been taking 300 mcg (not mg, mcg) several hours before going to bed. It seems to work. Knock on wood. Will continue with this regimen.

Hi @Tart Cherry Jam - good to hear you are having good resuts with small doses of Meatonin.

I am interested that some foods also provide small levels of Melaton. There is more on that here 6 Foods High in Melatonin and Why You Need It

I wish I had read this material before my attempt to use tart cherry juice before bed last year. It did not help with sleep but did make me gain weight I could not later lose. This material warns that tart cherry juice has so much sugar and advises to try eating tart cherries instead. Wise.
