Tonight my husband made a wonderful comment. He told me he had his wife back. He had told me a few times when things were bad that he wished someday that he could have his wife back. He wants me to be well and that he misses the me he married.
He has been such a wonderful support person. He has always loved me and he tells me all the time that he will continue to love me regardless, but he doesn't like the disease that causes me such pain. My first major "break," I guess you would call it, was after our first son was born and it wasn't until 1 year afterwards that we had the diagnosis of bipolar. He has held my hand, been my sounding wall, helped me when I wasn't sure what I was feeling was right, and taken care of me when I was at my worst. To be told that he finally has his wife back means so much to me. It means that I've finally had some success controlling this disease.
