wow. Went to pdoc yest. I already take "low" dose of Lamictal; she added Depakote ER for mania. I took it alone few years back with basic success for awhile. I realized how few meds there are for it-can't do 2 of them (lithum & abilify) bec of problems. Found an excellent booklet in her wait room that explains BP to you and families. It and my doc is stressing therapy now, which I dislike from prior experiences. My mania started about 2 months after new job, and worsened after recent surgery & return to work. It manifests with talking WAY too much, distraction, spending $, anger (not dangerous to anyone-I just like to ****** a lot), and I cannot relax or organize thoughts. Classic, I'm guessing. Has anyone else been on two mood stabilizers @ once? In 15 yrs I haven't. I'm scared of running out of choices in the future. I wish there were more choices considering it's no longer the 1950s... Basically, I'm scared and sad. Like always.

Yes, I take two mood stabilizers. Lamictal and Topamax.
I also take Abilify, and just started Welbutrin for depression. I was on Prozac for a while, but the sexual side effects became too bothersome.
Therapy is very helpful for me, too. It doesn't do much help when I am manic, but I like to be manic. Exept for the anger part. With therapy, I have learned to control my anger. (Abilify helps, too).
Maybe you could consider giving therapy another shot? I've been going twice a month (sometimes more often) for three years now. I love it.
Also, since adding a second mood stabilizer, Topamax, I have really gotten my moods under control. I have less ups and downs.

I take 3 mood stabilizers, Lithium, Lamictal and Tegretol. They've worked really well for me, and for now I will leave things are they are.

Hey like they say, if its not broke, don't fix it!
